I worked for a little liberal arts college in Indiana that was on what a lot of people thought would be its last legs. So sad, since it has been around since 1834. Then a series of fires occurred including one in the grand old administration building where my office was. The crisis spurred on people who sort of cared to became people more motivated to urgently care, and the place is in pretty good shape now. Sometimes emergencies do have silver linings. A Japanese investment firm has funded Texas-based Audioblog.com to launch a podcasting portal and offer podcast creation tools in the Far East. Audioblog is Eric Rice's venture. I keep hearing that the Katrina body count is going to be horrific. The numbers will be coming in as New Orleans is drained and the house-to-house search continues. Don Imus has an NBC News reporter on the air right now, saying nine dead were discovered in just one house in an area where there was no flooding. Maybe that 10k figure isn't so inflated after all. Yikes. This keeps getting worse and worse, doesn't it? But "you're doin' a heck of a job, Brownie!" (I hate the wisecraking Imus allows his team to indulge in, but boy does he ever get the best news folks who, somehow, when they're calling in to his show, let down their guard and give their own opinions. I really like hearing that.) Skimming through the news stories that quote the president attaboying the FEMA director, I saw an apt headline in this Australian paper. I'm going to have to remember the phrase "lose the plot." It's so descriptive and derisive without being completely cruel. I'll have one ringtone and a Coke Classic, please Digital content will be distributed via Coca-Cola vending machines in Ireland.
