Talking politics with my family this weekend, we decided that bloggers should do something about the Americans dying in Iraq. Somebody mentioned that a network TV showcase of Vietnam KIAs helped turn the tide of public opinion against that war.

What if there was a syndicated sidebar item that bloggers could put in that unused long skinny space that stretches below a blog's navigation column? I'm thinking of a stack of body bags or flag-draped coffins, one for every death, updated weekly.

So much extra stuff to do Permanent link to this item in the archive.

I took on a new freebie project, helping my sister-in-law with the website for the writing center at the college where she teaches English comp. She's a little interested in having her freshman comp students try out the OPML editor. I told her how much I like it for quick writing and instant publishing. Most of these kids are not English majors and they need every crutch you can think of to make writing more natural.

The other pro bono thing I need to finish first is a sad project. It's a memorial site for a friend of a friend whose 11-month-old grandson was killed by a caregiver who shook him to death. The site also will aim to educate people about Shaken Baby Syndrome, accept financial contributions for Joshua's hospital bill, and report on the criminal case against the caregiver. The circumstances and injuries were so extreme that the question of the death penalty may come into play.

I saw two window stickers on a pickup truck:

 Cement masons union sticker

Terrorist hunting permit: "No bag limit, tagging not required."

It was new to me, but apparently the sticker is available all over the net. I guess just not at sites I tend to visit.
