He's getting some research-based validation for a lot of his ideas. That always feels good. Cool stuff from Buzzmetrics. The CEO has been on Podtech's Marketing Voices a couple of times, and made me crave a look at his client reports that give companies like broadcast networks a sense of the sentiment of the web. A lot of their research is expensive and proprietary, but it's nice they're sharing some of the general material. I'll have to take a closer look after work. I love that kinda stuff, because I'm a geek.

More: part 2 | part 3 | part 4

I haven't seen the new This American Life show on Showtime. I don't have Showtime. Got a preview at a live-audience taping of the radio show I attended last month, where Ira and a Showtime producer talked about how to bring the magic of a radio show to the tube. It sounds (looks) like they pulled it off, in the sense that the spirit or vibe of the original was preserved. Sort of the way the film adaptation of a novel is successful if you get the same feeling, even though the new product sacrifices complete faithfulness to the original because it has to use the properties of its own medium.

They also discussed how some purists really don't like the idea that the show took to TV, and I have to admit there's something in me that doesn't want to see and like the TV show.

The feeling reminds me a little of They Might Be Giants when they added a full band. In Gigantic: A tale of two Johns, a documentary about TMBG (watch it; it's good; you can get it on Netflix), an interview subject tells about actual protests outside a venue on the first tour with a band. "Don't attend. They have a band." The duo, who are friends of the TAL show, used to rely mostly on John Linnell's accordian, something like Weird Al.

I like the band; maybe I'll like the TAL TV show too if I can get over this intransigent hump.

Scobelizer: "I'm just going to hang out in the hallway ... It's my little protest against expensive conference passes to hear about something new Microsoft wants me to talk about anyway."

Sounds like the appropriate response. Good for him.

Doesn't it feel like the collective anti-conference sentiment is building up a head of steam?

Got my Twitter button to show up. Now let's see what happens when I press it.

Yup, worked. Showed up on my Twitter page. I didn't change anything. Just got the update again as suggested on the support list. Didn't have any of the other problems Donovan reported. Guess I should be a good community member and go over there and say so.
