I think our captain gets heaven points for this gesture. There's no nicer feeling all around than satisfying a kid's most desperate longing. I just ordered a 1GB flash drive for my little guy's (17th!) birthday. He'd become frustrated with his 128MB and wanted 256 so this should please him. When I was looking at what's available, I couldn't help but think of my first computer with a hard drive, an Epson 286 with a 40MB drive. It seemed to just blaze away compared with my Apple IIc, with one floppy drive. (If you wanted to save a file you had to keep swapping the program disk with the blank one, sometimes 3 or 4 times before the thing was saved.) What was your first pre-Windows word processor? I never used WordStar much. I was accustomed to Fortune Word at work so I used MultiMate at home. Both were Wang-inspired. I never wanged either. In doing a meandering nostalgic lazy Saturday look around for MultiMate references, I see that ThinkTank later was bundled into a release called MultiMate Advantage. I think I might have been on to WordPerfect by that time. |
