I thought The Sopranos was almost over But I think I heard the announcer say there would be eight more episodes after this current round that ends next week? Yeah, I looked it up. Eight more starting January 2007. I don't know where I was I missed that news. Now the season arc makes more sense. I couldn't see how the series was winding down fast enough. I hadn't been keeping up with the developments in the case of Lance Dutson, the Maine blogger who was the victim of intimidation by a New York ad agency and the tourism office for his criticism of the agency's Maine tourism campaign. The suit was dropped two weeks ago. A troll was outted and he turned out to be a subcontractor of the agency. What a story. I think it needs to be a movie. Seriously! Can't you picture it? It's got everything: clueless government and marketing types... spunky little guy supported by an army of little guys. Imagine the montage when the blogosphere is mobilized, with busy, Rocky-in-training type music and bloggers furiously pounding out their posts with energy and determination. And of course you have the Happy Ending with the blogger prevailing and the bully quitting to make the bad "press" stop. The wonderfully ironic outcome of making a book or a movie about the case history would be thwarting the agency's desire to make it all stop. |
