Father Nicholas Falls Ill in a Railroad Depot.

Father Nicholas, one of the priests connected with the Graeco-Russian Church, was found in a semi-conscious condition in the street-car railroad depot on Central avenue and California street last night. He was removed to the receiving hospital in the police patrol wagon.

At 6 o'clock he went out to that part of the city and purchased a lot of fruit and sweetmeats. From there he went to the Cliff House and returned about 9 P. M. For a short time he appeared to wander aimlessly about the depot and then sank down on a bench. He appeared to be dazed.

Bishop Vladimir went to the hospital at once. He said that for a week or so Father Nicholas had been ill. He ate some overripe watermelon, which did not agree with him and which resulted in inflammation of the bowels. This ailment produced mental aberration, for he had acted in a peculiar manner many times recently. About midnight the priest recovered so as to be ale to be removed to his home, in the church on Union and Powell streets.

I found that googling for "overripe watermelon sick." Sweet that it was news.

I kept thinking it was a song title Permanent link to this item in the archive.

For an hour after I wrote the last post, headlined "Feeling stupid," I wasn't able to shake an impression that it's a song title. Then it hit me. I was morphing two song titles from approximately the same era: Feeling Groovy and Something Stupid.

Only Feeling Groovy isn't the name of the song; it's Simon and Garfunkel's 59th Street Bridge Song.

Something Stupid is a very uncool song to be able to remember. It's a duet made by Nancy Sinatra and her dad? Or was it her brother. In either event the guy was alive at the time, unlike Natalie Cole's duet with her dad.

Later: It was her dad. Somethin' Stupid page at Nancy Sinatra's official site. That babe's had some work done. She's 14 years older than me!

Also, now, see, I think this is pretty interesting. Both songs were made in 1967, not approximately the same era, but exactly the same slice of time. Consequently the memories of the two songs were stored in the same region of the brain, and that could be why I smooshed them together. Don't you think that's cool? I wonder what else is in there in the Amy at 13 department. Probably a lot of daydreams about boys.

The 59th Street Bridge Song has the parenthetical title, Feelin' Groovy. It must have been a 1967 thing to officially drop Gs in song titles. Looks dumb now, doesn't it?

Oh the silly inconsequential things you blog about when you're home sick and a little loopy.

Bein' loopy Permanent link to this item in the archive.

I just looked up "loopy."

adj : informal or slang terms for mentally irregular; "it used to drive my husband balmy" [syn: balmy, barmy, bats, batty, bonkers, buggy, cracked, crackers, daft, dotty, fruity, haywire, kooky, kookie, loco, loony, nuts, nutty, round the bend, around the bend, wacky, whacky]

I guess that's me, pretty much all the time, in sickness and in health.

As I neared the end of the bug report about my template problem, I started feeling stupider and stupider. I'm sure my problem was because I wasn't getting the whole update. I'd been getting an error when doing the "Get latest code" thing from the community menu for a while now. Several weeks I guess.

I probably shouldn't have kept grabbing fresh opml.roots from the file menu, even though I could, because those updates might not work with my outdated code in other parts of the application. I never thought about that while things were working, of course. You don't. Not until something breaks.

Ohhhh.... Permanent link to this item in the archive.

All I did was open the blog template and my existing template is gone. I like my pretty blue and yellow. My soul needs it.

It probably will only happen this one time with the css upgrade. I have a backup. I'll put back the old template tonight.

Later: I ended up staying home today. I'll report the bug then see if I can restore the template. Latest I have is from April. Should show up in a sec.

... or a minute...

... I know you're in there, new template

Maybe I need to touch it.

Yup. There we go.
