Long week Permanent link to this item in the archive.

The oppressive heat made the work week feel really long, though it's cooled off nicely today. So I'm especially looking forward to taking a few days off. Little guy and I are taking the train to Michigan on Sunday and we'll drive a rented truck back with some hand-me-down furniture. Might do a couple college visits.

I'm in. I don't have cash to spare, but I'll take a node, if that's what would be most needed, or provide some free labor if there is anything to be done that I am able to do. I can also use the directory as an example to illustrate inclusion in the little PDF book on OPML I'm working on (subject to editing).

Hil sent this to me this morning. I'd forgotten all about making it -- maybe... nine years ago?

I swiped the shell of the character from a kid's story book and made him look a little more like our friend Henry who we thought was a wizard. He could write a gawk script that did exactly what was needed, and do it in about 6 seconds flat.

Hil didn't remember seeing it. Probably I didn't haul it out very often since a nearly half-meg gif in dialup days was almost rude.

Maezr smiled ruefully. "But the enemy was not through, boy. The enemy would never be through. They came again, with more numbers, and it was harder to beat them. And another generation of young men was spent. Only a few survived. So we came up with a plan -- the big men came up with the plan. We knew that we had to destroy the enemy once and for all, totally, eliminate his ability to make war against us. To do that we had to go to his home worlds -- his home world, really, since the enemy's empire is all tied to his capital world."

"And so?" Ender asked.
