A BlogHer co-founder on the conference and reactions to it Lisa makes her points thoughtfully and from the heart. I'm glad she's in charge. Opml.org blogs and changes have been running great. I only thought to mention it because one of my domains is down right now. Time for plan B on Iraq, Tom Friedman's column from behind the NYT firewall. I've heard there are good arguments for keeping Iraq a single state. (Didn't the U.S. have a hand in bringing that about in the first place, years ago? Or maybe the Brits. Something to do with oil, no doubt.) But I wonder what would be so much worse than the present situation to just let Iraq balkanize. (Something to do with oil, no doubt.) Later: Found a comment on thinkprogress.org wondering the same thing. I'm reading Redemption, the sequel, or "duringquel" to Trinity by Leon Uris. I'd forgotten how sloppy it is. Stuff like background explanation repeated as many three times within 80 pages, as though nobody read it for sense. I should just stop reading now at 200+ pages, but I want my further adventures of Conor Larkin, just like other fans of Trinity. Obviously that's why the book was put out, but I'm disappointed in Uris for stooping to Picasso mode. An excellent "duringquel," IMO: Orson Scott Card's Ender's Shadow, same story as Ender's Game except from a different character's perspective. It was written with care. I wonder when the two-dot-ohers are going to discover fanfic and declare it a new thing, throwing in the word "social" for good measure. It's a very early and ongoing example of remixing that nobody ever mentions. For the ebook I'm writing, I'd like to get some quotes, stories, screenshots, examples -- whatever suits the purpose best -- on these applications of OPML: - Live blogging - Instant outlining as collaboration tool - Projected outline as a replacement for the easel pad at planning meetings - Publication content storage |
