There hasn't been much buzz about the addition to the Podsafe Music Network of some back catalog songs from Deep Purple and Alice Cooper and others. It seems kind of significant.

The deal is, if I understand it right from listening to a couple recent Daily Source Codes, these artists own the music and lyrics, but in many cases they don't own rights to the master recordings of the hit songs. So if they re-release them as live recordings or through some other loophole they can list them as podsafe if they want to. I guess I'm thinking that the wanting to is the significant part.

Maybe there's not much talk about it because the Podsafe Network has come to be thought of as the rallying point for all things independent and little-guy. Maybe too many whoops of joy about scoring the big names would sound like dissing the loftier principle?

Little guy saw Snakes on a Plane Permanent link to this item in the archive.

My younger son went to a sold-out midnight showing of SoaP on Thursday night. He said it was entertaining. I don't trust his 17-year-old's judgement based on other movies I know he likes. The crowd was rowdy, throwing drinks and popcorn. He said they did the reveal the right way -- the Hitchcock way -- letting the audience know about the snakes before the passengers knew.

Pssst: hey buddy, the fix is in. Pass it on. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Now it's easier. Dave made an update, so all you have to do is choose the Update Opml.root command from the OPML Editor's file menu. It will be reported that 1 new part has been loaded.

Here's the secret Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Dave's instruction:

How to get your OPML Editor working again:

if dotOpmlData.prefs.server == "xmlrpc://support.opml.org/RPC2"

dotOpmlData.prefs.server = "xmlrpc://rpc.opml.org/RPC2"

Wonder if you can do that in the menu with change community server and re-register. I'll try it and see.

Funny, yesterday I did try changing from support to blogs and hosting, thinking it might be the domain. Maybe I'm not so dumb.

Waiting.

Yes! RSS changed to today's posts...

No change on the blog or changes page yet. Wait. Reload.

Yup. Worked.

- Under the Community menu, choose Change community.

- Type in rpc.opml.org

- Under the Community menu again, choose Register. Accept all the values already in there for the other server.

David Rothman's been blogging about ad-supported books. Not a bad idea. Especially considering the ridiculous cost of textbooks.

Good RSS tutorial by librarian Luke Rosenberger. Good, but on the long side? I like the delivery metaphor. (By way of Library Stuff.)

Tom said on the opmlsupport list that he's been blogging while the server is kerflooey, only it's a secret what he's saying.

Me, too, blogging, some. It is not so satisfying when you can't publish. It's a little like those nightmares where you try to scream and nothing comes out.

I feel kind of sorry for Dave. I'm imagining he probably caught wind of the problem one way or another yesterday and heaved a big sigh and wished he had a bench. I wish I knew how to help.
