I sprang my mobile newsletter on my boss today. Big points for Amy. I'm glad it was the topic of the week. It pushed me to do this.

It looked so cute on my boss's Treo. Sweet little mini version.

Danny Ayers responded to Doc's point yesterday about inspiring publishers to get to work on mobile stuff by saying in a comment

Raising interest is great, but it's hardly been back-burnered. Work on mobile/ubiquitous access to the web has never been more dynamic. The treatment of information as a flow underlies many conceptual/architectural models around programming and media delivery (i.e. publishing).

There's publishing and then there's non-profit, association and trade publishing. Collectively they do a huge amount of publishing, but lots of publishers in verticals outside the tech arena don't have SVPs in charge of digital content or much of a strategy -- or anything like conceptual/architectual models unless that's what you call our $150 LAMP CMS.

I'm the ranking online content person in my organization and I'm only a step removed from cubicle living. Any strategy comes from me and my boss, the publisher of our three magazines, 20 newsletters and 50 books, and we have $0 budget for programming. If I can't do it, it doesn't happen.

Yes, something like Dave's evangelizing this week can move teams like ours.

Betcha Dave's thinking of some kind of distributed OPML directory for the job boards?

I'd like to come to the virtual no foo camp, but it's sort of hard for the self-esteem-challenged to self select as important and influential.

Is it the 50s again? I dislike this sort of commentary about women and tech toys. Men and women are not that different from each other when it comes to this kind of thing.

Chances are the writer's sister made her choice based on some reason that also would apply to any guy with the same organizing requirements, whatever they might be.

Read the comments. I worry about younger women and this pink thing. Girly-girl stuff is fun in an equality-based context, but it sends a fluffy shallow message to a lot of the male contemporaries of these under-30 women.

Young guys who need to think of women as easily supressible are encouraged by this kind of image. Witness the Amanda fans who were put off by the new Rocketboom host's deep voice. It made her appear in control of things. Heaven forbid.

BTW, I'm still following Rocketboom comments and it looks like the insecure little boys who watched because of the t-shirts have either stopped watching or stopped commenting. Nice move on Andrew's part to choose a host who doesn't have to be overtly sexual to be noticed and admired.

I think the market value of the Rocketboom audience is increased as a result. If you were an advertiser, who would you want to reach? A drooling lech or an appreciative admirer? Which would you rather sponsor? A message inherently appealing to mostly men, or a message that also is welcomed by the other half of the world?

Anyone else getting old index pages popping up on refresh? Not often, just occasionally since the server split I'll get a old page from April or January or May. Slow loading again, this morning, too.
