I don't know, the new one is slick and pretty, and I suppose it does make some sense to give the orange feed square a sister if the new RSS icon has legs (and I think it probably does). But -- 1) I like the red hand-drawn "O" and "OPML," and André Radke's stylized icon based on it, though I think the latter doesn't go tiny with enough grace. 2) If Dave isn't enthusiastic about the move to the blue symbol, I don't see pushing it. He gets at least 150,000 votes on the subject, in my book.
Anyway, I think Dave's intention was misconstrued in the way his call for icons is positioned on the icon project page. The comments are gone now (Manila spam problem), but I seem to remember the request was not for a replacement of the red logo, but a variation of it for the narrow purpose of a badge to stamp on pages displaying valid OPML. And here it is: the all new elbow cozy
Now I'll just wait and hear how it's been done for a hundred years. Well, I never heard of one. Girlie stuff ahead -- avert your eyes See what you think of this idea. You won't get it if you don't have rough elbows. I don't know what I do to get them. Part of it might be sticking my elbow out the car window, because the left one is worse. Anyway, here's what I'm going to make tonight. Got the materials at the fabric store at lunchtime. (Also scolded a cross old cutting-table lady for being condescending to a customer who had the nerve not to understand how to read the yardage requirements on a pattern envelope.) So, it's a bit of terrycloth that I'll install on my elbow. It will be a little like a sports wristband, except it's not made of stretch terry. The stretch is effected by elastic casings on both edges, and it fits loose. The idea is to be able to slather up your elbow with lotion or vaseline or triple-antibotic or whatever works. Then go about your business or go to sleep without the goop getting rubbed off. |
