Not sure I like the way Bush is making links between 911 and Iraq. My home printer sits on a narrow shelf. Its roller deposits printed sheets into the tray at a slightly downward angle, and with enough force to shoot the papers right out onto the floor. I don't use the printer much; sometimes I go for weeks without turning it on. That means when I do use it, it's for something I really want, and it always annoys me to see the printer treat the object of my desire with such contempt. It seems to be saying, "Hey, Amy. Here. Take your stinkin' paper." I've come to dislike the insolent thing. Peggy worked out a quick hack for my WordPress problem. Really nice of her. WordPress as development platform, Expression Engine, and the stench of simulated enthusiasm I haven't used WordPress much, but I'm beginning to see now how it can work as almost a beginner's development platform, once you grasp a few ins and outs. I use Expression Engine (also LAMP) at work in that way. I think EE gives you a little more flexibility, especially when it comes to custom fields, but I can't be sure of that until get my hands a little dirtier with WordPress. The nice thing about Expression Engine is you can pay a little for it, and get access to support forums that are responsive and almost always helpful when they can be. Sometimes a thing you want to do simply isn't possible, but very often some little trick you've dreamed up already has been realized. I rave about EE a lot. They don't pay me to do it and I have no connection with the product, except that I've been a user for a few years. I just like the range of things it lets me do, and I tend to garrulousness about things I like. (Psssst! Hey social media manipulators. Free tip: you can't buy that, and you can't simulate it. When you try to simulate it (or amplify it), the reek of its falseness makes it way, way less effective than a flat-out hard-sell pitch.) |
