The first-quarter presidential campaign fundraising figures were released today -- all but Obama's. I sent ten bucks to Obama's campaign, first political contribution I've made since McGovern was in danger of losing his Senate seat in the late 70s. It was an impulse, but I guess I wanted to contribute not so much the money; it won't go far when they spend most of the funds on TV advertising -- he'll need 2,000 contributors like me to air a 30-second spot one time in LA. I wanted to help swell the numbers of contributors because that demonstrates populism. Only thing is, even though he's reported to be leading in sheer numbers of contributors, it's probably going to be fewer than 100,000. Doesn't that seem like a small number? All kinds of big local news in Chicago today Tribune sold, Cubbies will be. Who wouldn't want to own the Cubs? Bill Murray is interested. How cool would that be?
