Just passing through... 

Clever terminology on Ancester.com. If you don't want to make the effort to start a family free, you can save a name in a "shoebox."

So many times web users are just passing through, staying on a page for two seconds. If you make stuff on the web you always have to remind yourself that a huge percentage never read a thing, then you work up to the prize of users who skim the headlines and callouts. It's discouraging, but you have to face it, and consider all the various degrees of possible engagement, all the way up to the pinnacle, which is "nowhere near as interested as you are."

More cleverness 

The new They Might Be Giants album, The Else, contains a song called "Climbing the Walls." The chorus goes:

I got tired of pacing the floor,

So I got a new job, climbing the walls

Linnell's of course.

Pretty much all my favorite TMBG songs are his, though Flans can turn in a clever turn of phrase, like "I got my house surrounded. I know I'm in there. Come out with both my hands up, and don't make me come in and get me." Always reminds me of the sheriff in Blazing Saddles.

The album was released last week on iTunes, two months ahead of the CD.
