In the flapper era moralists and parents worried that listening to music produced by saxophones would promote promiscuity. The wrath was directed at the instrument, but it must have been the phrasing that was supposed to get people all stirred up. I can see that; I mean, who doesn't swoon when they hear Baker Street? I suspect there must have been a racial aspect to it, too.
