Admitting it, I'm hooked Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Can't miss a NewsGang. But still reluctant to call in very often. I tend to garrulousness and usually try to govern that by just not showing up.

And you guys -- Matt and Bruce-- feeding it with your interesting damned companion pieces -- aren't helping one little bit.

(Yeah, Bruce, that was me; couldn't figure out how to register to comment on your blog.)

iPhone apps for sale? Not a horrible idea. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

I'm interested in the speculation that iPhone apps will be sold through iTunes. Makes sense, when you think about the ringtone market, proving that phone toys can be sold.

In a internet world that loves and has come to expect apps to cost nothing, lots of users and developers will hear The Man asserting himself when the announcement is made next week.

There's something to be said for encouraging the micropayments model though. It's a hedge against the dominance of ad-supported everything -- that other Man.

Plus it could be a smart strategy for Apple, since it's losing its stranglehold on the online music market. A rechristened iTunes could become a central marketplace for all manner of e-products, including text products.

I'm going to have to break down and get an iPhone whether I can afford it or not. I want to make some of those little things too, and it would be nice to be able to see them!

Sorry sisters, don't kick me out of the hood, but I have this instinct that women web techs are drawn to making widgets and mobile apps because they're cute and little. Something like dollhouses.
