Google transit directions comes to Chicago but not for Amy Well shoot, that's pretty disappointing. Google yesterday announced it's cooperating with the CTA to provide public transit directions. The trouble for me is it's CTA only -- doesn't include Metra, the commuter rail system. You get the idea from the video demo that it's area-wide because the demo route is O'Hare to Wrigley Field. But the line from O'Hare is technically part of the city el system. (The first mayor Daley cooked up a scheme years ago to make the pretty far-flung airport a part of the city of Chicago by making a sort of isthmus.) So, if I were still living in Oak Park, I'd get the extra "Take public transit link" on the directions screen. Now that I'm further west, no transit directions for Amy, which is a shame because it's we suburbanites who could really use the assistance. When you live closer to the city you already know how to get everywhere without thinking. Wonder if it works on the mobile. That could be handy. Once you get closer in, you could look up connections from Union Station. The free web conferencing tool is looking much better than the early version I tried last year. I'll check it out after work, or maybe try to have a conference with myself at home and work: conferbation. |
