OPML Editor for Windows Permanent link to this item in the archive.

I found this tweet from last night:

stephenedgar @davewiner True, though users like myself and @amyloo use Windows and can and do help other Windows users of the OPML Editor

It was a part of a conversation I was about to link to in Summize, but you can't link to a particular conversation. It would be handy if you could, wouldn't it?

Dave was saying he wanted Windows users of the OPML Editor to help with support and testing since he works only on the Mac these days. That's reasonable. The software is free, after all. I'd be up for testing and helping with some lower-level support.

I have an idea the IE issue might have resolved itself. I'll take a shot and upgrade on a computer I don't use very much. I'll report what happens. Try to do it this morning.

I like the idea of going to a Google group, or anything but Yahoo. Both OPML support groups there have become almost all spam. I unsubbed from email alerts from them a while ago, so if anybody did need help I wouldn't know. I'd also be willing to take a turn moderating to filter any spam on a new list. Would it be completely crazy to try support via Twitter? Set up a Twitter account for it?

Reminder to Dave: FlickrFan is almost working on Windows. The screensaver part works. I can dig out an old email about it. I think I remember one hangup I noticed was a folder-naming thing.

Later: reply from Dave.

@Amyloo -- do whatever you feel is appropriate. I'll link to whatever you guys come up with from the FlickrFan.org site. Make sense?

Yes, provided there are others willing to help too. I'm getting smarter, like Dave, about not wading through the droppings into the Little Red Hen coop. Has to be a co-op.

The Popemania brings Rogers Cadenhead's domain purchase to mind. He's pretty funny.

They Might Be Concert Downloads Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Do many bands other than They Might Be Giants offer downloads of their concerts?

We (my kids and I) bought one four years ago after attending a Fourth of July appearance at the Taste of Chicago. It cost $10. I'd never heard of it at the time, and realize now I still haven't. Granted I don't keep up with music and internet news.

Judging from the number of concerts offered and the dates, it looks like it appeared to be worth the trouble, but then turned out not to be? They stopped last year. Maybe too many shared? I'll see if there more info about it on the This Might be a Wiki.

TMBG has a thing about puppets. (Who doesn't?)

Loren/Shel might want to check out the connection, what with the band being in Brooklyn and having some longstanding internet sympathies.

Of the two related songs I know about, "Puppets Gonna Fuck You Up" is perhaps the best topical fit. It was never recorded, just performed at a few live shows. Here's a fan recording. These are the lyrics.

An old one (1986), Put Your Hand Inside the Puppet Head is a good song.

The Giants discuss their music videos in the Gigantic documentary, crediting Adam Bernstein, director of the earliest videos, and the newness of MTV for helping put them on the map. They seem to borrow that acting-up-for-the-home-movie-camera quality I found so amusing on the Monkees TV show when I was 12 (had a crush on Davy of course), and I suppose that was borrowed from the Hard Day's Night movie.

Of their videos from that era, I like Ana Ng the best:

OK. I can't help myself with the James Burke-like connections. Picking up the weird video thread, and weaving it into internet ties, here's a cartoon video of "Experimental Film" made for TMBG by the Homestar Runner guys. I like both the song and the video a lot.

One last connection and I promise I'll stop because they're getting tenuous and tedious. I'd like to thank my sons for making me listen to music I wouldn't otherwise hear. It's a little like the politicians like Clarie McCaskill, the senator from Missouri, and others who say their support for Obama started with their children.
