Naperville, IL -- Hillary Clinton, D-NY, today clarified her Friday statements about the assassination end-game in an interview with the Amyloo Times editorial board.

"You know, I don't understand it," Clinton remarked to the panel. "These Black activists stir up all kinds of animosity in the electorate, and you know, it's just bound to cause some nutcase to lock and load. As I've said in many different ways, it takes a steady leader to know how to choose the middle course and get the job done. You know, Martin Luther King was great and inspirational, and all that, but he was careless enough to go and get people all riled up, and it fell to the responsible white guy, Lyndon Johnson, to push through landmark civil rights legislation.

"My candidacy represents the same, responsible, ready-on-day-one plan. Barack, god love him, he's just not ready for this game. It's too early. He's going to tick off the wrong gunman with his dreamy words, and land himself right in the grave. So again, it falls to the steady white politician to stand ready to lead. That's what I've been trying to tell America. You put the grownups in charge, you don't have to worry about all that blood and nonsense that rabid ideology will usher in."

Good for CNN for digging a little deeper into Christian Zionism on Friday.

I've noticed that TV commenters have been latching onto the "Christian Zionist" minister's comments about Katrina or about Catholics -- I'm guessing because they are more soundbitable than the more complicated story about dispensationalism. Hagee's remark about Hilter's role in biblical prophecy was definitely not a stray one-off picked-apart remark. It's part of an elaborate belief system that a frightening number of Americans subscribe to.

If you want to look into it a little closer, here's a short reading/watching/listening list:

- Fresh Air interviews from 2006

- Matt Taibi's new book The Great Derangement: A Terrifying True Story of War, Politics, and Religion at the Twilight of the American Empire. I'm about a third of the way through. It's a good read so far. Taibi infiltrates Hagee's San Antonio church.

- Max Blumenthal's visit to the Christians United for Israel event in Washington D.C. last summer. Tom DeLay is ready for the rapture. Some estimates claim 25% of evangelicals believe end-times scenarios. Taibi thinks the majority of Southern Baptists do.

- A post of mine about it from September with more links.

- Rapture Ready, a message board where end-times philosophy is discussed and where the faithful peer into current events, and sometimes cheer themselves by pointing out hopeful signs that the U.S. or Israel will attack Iran and get the big show on the road.
