The MESSENGER Mercury probe did a flyby of Earth in early August to get a gravity boost for it's trip. As it went by it recorded this movie of the rotating Earth. Awesome.

Yes there are now One Million North Americans on World of Warcraft, and I know a few of them. As with all games I got into it for a while and then moved on. My subscription runs out next month so I'll probably go in for another visit before it's over.

Yesterday it looked like New Oreleans was going to make it through the hurrican better off than it was originally through. But this morning a levee gave way:

 At first, many thought that the storm would not be as catastrophic as forecasters predicted for most of New Orleans, because the storm made a right turn at the last minute, and the eye missed New Orleans by 10-15 miles. Immediately after the worst winds passed, the storm surge, which scientists had worried might top levees, slowed and stabilized. Early Tuesday, however, a levee gave way, and 80% of New Orleans is now said to be under water, which in some places is 25 feet deep.
