In my quest for living on the CLI this week (and probably next week) I needed to find a way to read my RSS feeds from the command line. My usual newsreader has been GoogleReader, but for some reason all-things Google doesn't come out well in a text-based browser such as lynx. Also, I've used lynx with OPML editor's NewsRiver for a good user experience, but OPML editor isn't command line stuff. So I found snownews and have enjoyed the experience of reading my feeds and keeping up with my sites of interest. There's a part of me that likes how GReader mixes stories according to time of publishing as opposed to smownews listing by site, but I can easily overlook that. If anything, snownews, like other cli apps, is quick with no lag time while I have to wait for the screen to draw. |
