I am pleased and proud of the first story posted by Cinema Minima's new correspondent Lauen Feeney, a filmmaker from Philadelphia.

However, I had to put on my copy-editor's green eyeshade, to make changes to the story, to bring it into line with Cinema Minima's international style.

Although the standard dateline should take care of most of the American references in the story, the reader should be catered-to with amplifications.

"The film opened in LA" was changed to translator-friendly "Los Angeles" -- Some readers have stories translated by machine, such as Google Language Tools.

"opened today in 77 theaters across the country" was changed to "opened 2006 June 3 in 77 theaters across the United States" -- again, the dateline should be a tipoff, but this change gives the reader a little extra help.

"PowerBook in his lap, apple glowing brightly" changed to "PowerBook in his lap, its Apple logo glowing brightly" since international readers may never have seen a PowerBook in operation.

"35 mm" changed to "35mm" -- AP Style is space between number and mm, but everybody else likes 35mm and so do I.

"the Presidential campaign of 2000." changed to "the American Presidential election campaign of 2000 in which he was a candidate." For a 20-year-old reader in Singapore, the events of six years ago in another country are likely to be distant, almost time-out-of-mind.

I wish I could use Markdown and SmartyPants.

Can't find the old ClayBasket pref!

Will this be another useful blogging tool? Or will OPML Editor be too fucking retro to bother with? I've used Frontier since version 1! And I learned over many years to loathe Radio Userland for its inadequacies. I recall the years that they denied there was a problem with upstreaming. By the time they got around to admitting the problem -- after personnel changes -- I had to find another solution. It's sad; it could have been a good tool; instead, it resembles some Microsoft applications: never-finished hacks.

Now this is like using old Frontier without any of the good parts of Radio Userland!
