LIGHT and POWER Directory is the latest try at putting all my OPML lists online. This will include my personal lists — such as my iTunes podcasts — as well as Cinema Minima's directories.

I want to move it to Map A Domain service —

directory.lightandpower.net will be the address (URI) of my directory service, provided (on an experimental basis) by Dave Winer as part of his grand OPML Editor project. Right now the document is at — http://hosting.opml.org/cinemaminima/directory.opml

Per the instructions, I have pointed the subdomain towards the OPML community server <67.18.151.44>, which I expect to propagate in the next day. As Dave says, Murhpy be praised

Update: I pointed to <67.18.151.44> and it has propagated through the net, but when I do OPML Editor > Community > Map A Domain... I get error 4: "Can't map an outline to the domain because the domain doesn't point to the server." Which is not true!

Until this gets fixed, I've got the directory in a Grazr browser — I am not happy about this —

LIGHT and POWER Directory

I had been enthusiastic about using OPML Editor's Map A Domain service because I really like the way Dave Winer has designed the directory interface. I really feel that its simplicity makes for an elegant user experience.

The only thing that doesn't work exactly the way I would want it to, is that it defaults to no underlining for link text, which I think is not obvious for users who have been conditioned for a decade now to click on text links. I do not think that naive (not experienced) users would automatically click on the folders.

I much prefer Dave's implementation to the Optimal Browser's — and iJot's, among others — tiny type and tiny icons.

My directory is not a demo for geeks, it is a practical tool for movie makers, who may not spend lots of time online, or using a computer; everything needs to be simple.

Grazr is also too fancy for my taste.

By the way the best place to start finding about OPML and the Editor is <blogs.opml.org/openAllNight>.
