You all saw this on Slashdot, but it is just too cool:
For the three people following the Weird U.S. saga, there was a scare today, then good news. History Channel rejected the masters we sent because they didn't have VITC, just LTC. Any of you brilliant webheads know what that's about? Ha! Anyway, it could have been my oversight, my first reaction was that it was the captioning house's lapse, but if it was mine it would have meant hours more work to re-output. It turned out to be captioning, as I thought. And a full evaluation by History Channel brought back a perfect tech review. My reputation is intact, I'm still the guy who knows how. Never mind that I know it was not perfect. But part of my skill in getting things out the door (the prime directive for editors) is knowing what is Good Enough. Entropy fooled again! His father-in-law is helping him build it. Looks just like Ikea. Hey, I'm building the whole girls club studio myself. With the girls that is. That's my current gig. Countdown 25 Craziest Rides for the Outdoor Life Network. That's 25 in half an hour. Ripping little 40-second you-are-there spills and thrills. Mini music videos. With blips from odd extreme sports fanatics. Fun. Until the execs start monkeying with all your finely crafted work to add a few useless words that throw all the music hits off. That's why they pay me the middle-sized bucks. Perseverance. Endurance. And why the youngsters haven't passed me by yet. Oh yeah. Did I say it's a macho show? Imitation is the sincerest form of television. |
