podcast OPML

codetek virtualdesktop pro back in action. i needed more room. seems to be running stable.

css validates for this themeStream

can we have multiple connections to various community servers at one time? or do we need to log out/log in every time we want to post to a different community. i can imagine wanting to belong to a number of opml communities that might spring up. how about a different outline for each one and the ability to be logged in to them all _at the same time_?

there must be a way to keep all of my opml editor windows in the same place each and every time i use it, right? i like how today's outline is placed. i like the shape and location of my Event Log. I like where I've placed my About OPML window. Please, please tell me how i can lock this in so i'm not always moving and rearranging windows. thx.

of course, as soon as i wrote that, the Event Log window flashed something and then disappeared. i choose Open Log Outline and it's back to a default size, right in the middle of my screen. please remember the size and location i like you to be. thank you for listening, my precious little editor. my preciousssssss....

idea: create bookmarkable podcast thoughtStreams. each bookmark corresponds to the wedge in the outline.

live archives like wordpress site has. i want this.

mind bombs. i need to call something here a mind bomb. maybe the projects i'm working on? maybe the whole idea of a thoughtStream is a mind bomb. it's becoming that for me.

can't wait till i can run my own news river.

http://hosting.opml.org/dwatts/blog/2006/02/03.opml is the URL of the OPML file that is generated for today's post. i wonder if i used that exact same URL scheme for the podcast if i could somehow come up with an automated way to link everything up.

the new URL for podcasts would be http://hosting.opml.org/dwatts/podcast/2006/02/03.mp3

but how to build that folder structure? maybe i could repurpose the image uploading tool mypictures.root into mypodcasts.root instead? drop an mp3 in a folder. it uploads it to the podcast folder using the same date based structure as for the opml file.

how can i automatically grab the URL of today's outline and copy it to the clipboard? actually, i want to auto-generate the bit of code that gets placed at the top of each day's thoughtStream. the podcast link should get the URL of today's podcast and the noteStream link should get the URL of today's post.

this is an interesting format. i post and save during the day. those who wish to visit the site get the latest thoughts. those who open the opml file get the latest thoughts. at night, after i record the podcast, i add upload it, add a link to it, save today's outline *and then* I Build RSS.

with other weblogging apps, the RSS is built automatically. with opml editor, we get to decide when to build the rss feed. i'm toying around with that power. perhaps i want to release just one thoughtStream a day? this works perfectly for thoughtStreaming. live notes but those who want the finished product only need subscribe to the RSS feed. Yes! i like it. a new model for me. one that i'm not used to.

this is the url produced using the current outlining technique: http://blogs.opml.org/dwatts/2006/02/03#thoughtstreamsByDonovanWatts

that's a good URL in my mind (except the # sign can cause some grief with services like talkr.com) because it is consistent.

going to try just one day on the home page. interesting... the date line goes away if i do this.

Closed the door on Radio UserLand: The Missing Manual. Onward!

idea: create a skinnyfarm rss two way feed for each day's outline. along with linking to the daily podcast and opml file, point to the 2way rss feed so that folks can subscribe to it and spark up a conversation about the day's posts.

interesting alternative to comments system i think.

perhaps rather than right-clicking to add a link to the daily podcast, i might instead create a CSS class to wrap it up in a nice bit of code.

icons used on the thoughtStream theme are part of the silk collection.

interesting idea. attach each day's outline to the entry with the podcast. might look something like this..

 listen to today's thoughtStream

 read today's thoughtStream outline [opml image]

where is the area in opml editor where i can change the Date string so that it is wrapped in a header tag?

added some css called thoughtstreamdownload which produces the following. a package image automatically gets inserted and the paragraph gets indented just by wrapping the paragraph in a div tag.

Download thoughtStream theme

Revision 2

this just in... "the news is saying that the worst wind storm we've seen in a long time is about to hit, with winds at 40 mph gusting to 60 mph over the next few days."

going to try an experiment today. typing into the opml editor causes some grief with certain things i want to do with my feeds, namely running them through other sites as well as having the output what i'd expect when arriving in an aggregator.

for the experiment i'm going to start one header level for the entire day and everything will be posted under that. let's see how it goes.

it means an extra step every time i click on 'new entry' but it might not be too bad.

let's see. what else might break from this strategy? well, i guess it would appear that i'm only posting once per day. maybe that's a good thing.

37 Signals: "We've been load testing it, throwing thousands of requests at it, trying to find out where it breaks under heavy loads. Simulation is one thing, but real world loads are another. So we figured we'd enlist the SvN army to help put out the campfire."

guy: try SnipURL to shorten URLs

listening to metropolis on KCRW for the next few hours.

dave: Thanks to Jeff Cheney for the pointer to an excellent list of time-savers for Frontier users that Brent Simmons wrote five years ago. Most of them also work in the OPML Editor.

Thank you for your past interest in BackJack as a solution for your Macintosh offsite backup needs

added an about page. just upload an .html file in your www folder. wish i could drop an .opml file in there instead.

added p class="alert" code to my css file so that now i can draw attention to items such as newly released thoughtStream themes and podcasts.

.alert {

 background: #FFF6BF;

 border-top: 2px solid #FFD324;

 border-bottom: 2px solid #FFD324;

 text-align: center;

 margin: 10px auto;

 padding: 5px 20px;

 }

added thoughtStream regularly used code to my workspace table

need to add original template.opml macros to thoughtStream template.opml

would be good to add an outline called #navigatorLinks.opml to the sidebar and have it rendered in the sidebar. hmmm. maybe not.

http://127.0.0.1:5337/ shows me a site with one link to viewTools. what is that?

all thoughtStreams flow into the river of news
