In thoughtStream 15 I ponder an OPML Community server on Become the Media, pontificate about a future filled with bands of roaming webloggers and OPML Editor flash mobs, and of course I play some delicious music. ![]()

how i post a picture to my opml editor blog ![]()
brooklyn joe asks how to add an image to his opml blog. there are a number of ways i'm sure but here's how i do it. ps - i'm on mac osx. not sure the best way to do this on a pc.
whenever i find a picture i want to post, i copy it to my clipboard. then i switch to imagewell and paste it in. then i click on the send button which sends the image off to my ftp server. then it puts an html ready link in my clipboard which i then paste into my outline.
i can't say enough about imagewell. when i wrote radio userland the missing manual, i always suggested that mac users abandon the built-in image uploading tool and use imagewell instead.
cosmicdread, please send me a download link for your icon buffet icons oslo atmosphere. give me your email address and i'll send you the download for the coffee set. thanks, got em! ![]()
it's a small world after all. yes, cosmicdread, canton is my very good friend and business partner and he's an excellent musician. i play his music on my podcasts often. ![]()
one of the things that draws me to burning man year after year is the mind blowing capability of a group of people to come together in the middle of a desert, create a thriving and exciting community for a week and then disband, leaving no trace. we do our best, anyhow. somehow that's on my mind as i ponder all of this stuff. the man burns in 189 days. ![]()
good to know what's being updated. ![]()
Hil: The huge fruitbat bodysuit puppet I have been making for The Fool Factory is just finished. via lisa. check out the bodysuit. it kicks ass. i totally want one. i wonder if i can hoop while wearing that? ![]()
good advice for password retrieval from random bits. ![]()
thanks again to random bits for a pointer to the opml changes rss feed. ![]()
yes! i've been asking for bookmarks in opml editor and now it looks like i've found my answer. thanks to random bits and lisa and mark woods. create a new menubar item in the user.menus object - and name them anything but bookmarkMenu and customMenu. Use the existing menubars as examples. Now you can bookmark frequently visited areas within the OPML Editor's database. Cool beans. let's call them thoughtMarks. ![]()
looks like brooklyn joe is waffling between the kubrick theme and the thoughtStream. which theme will become his final theme? stay tuned and see. ![]()
coming soon
thanks for the vote of support, marty. ![]()
I'd definitely jump (move this blog) to a commercial site (even Donovan's) if I was sure that it would a) be well taken care of and b) stay up with the changes I think are coming now that it's all Open Source.
There's a vote of confidence for the budding Media Mogul.
you got it, les. one steaming hot coffee icon set. i've got four more i can give away. who wants a set? ![]()
OPML Community Server Gauntlet Throw Down ![]()
I'm thinking about offering an OPML Community Server on Become the Media.
When I registered the domain, my intention at the time was to run a Frontier/Manila server and offer free weblogs in the form of pcook.becomethemedia.org like a number of other services offered at the time, including my very own Manila hosting service Web Surf Hawaii.
But a Frontier license was $800 bones a year and hosting other's people's stuff is serious business. For Become the Media to really blossom into something interesting, initially affordable to me, and beyond simple weblog hosting, I needed some unique reason as well as a solid plan behind it to make sure it would work and be well received.
Regarding the OPML Community server, Dave Winer says..
I'm kind of trying to drive things that way, so that at some point the idea will occur to a business-person, hey I could offer these people a service and make some money. It hasn't happened yet, but I hope it will someday, hopefully soon.
Do what you love. I love thoughtStreaming in my OPML Editor. I'd love to be able to form my own community of OPML Editors on Become the Media. I love the idea of providing yet another alternative to those who might choose to Change Community... from the Community menu to see what my little nook of the web might have to offer. I'm thinking about the integration of an OPML Community Server, as well as other community driven tools such as a Campfire, Instant Outline Meetups, OPML Flash Mobs, and thoughtStreaming ho-downs for instance.
If I build it, will they come? Hmmm.. I wonder. And how will I build it? That, my thoughtStream visitor, is the next question to ponder.
Let me ask you this.... where will you go when Dave pulls the plug?
i wish i was special but i'm just a creep. you know, a weirdo. all this and more on donovan's thoughtCast. fresh, creepy tunes with a twist of lemon. ![]()
i wonder how many of us opmlers are radio refugees? ![]()
what's this? an opmlite weblogging about puppets? i play a puppetmaster on my thoughtStream but in real life i am just an ordinary human. ![]()
Tune in to my thoughtCast
![]()
dave is prepping us opmler's for the inevitable move away from blogs.opml.org. where will the flock go? once we part ways from our little community, will we still remain friends? ![]()
it's going to be a great day. for you and for me. ![]()
