opml editor wordpress inbreeding ![]()
i recall les talking about this kind of thing. i don't have the post handy but the gist is this. opml editor as WordPress Asides generator.
here's an example which i'd like to arrive at
use the wordpress tool to post to my wordpress blog. hopefully category support will get fixed for us wordpress users on our own domain, not just wordpress.com
use the community daily outline to post to my Asides category. If I could achieve this, then i would immediately rename my Asides category to... you guessed it... thoughtStreams. but instead of these thoughtStreams being sent to a community server, they'd instead be going to the same place that my entries into the WordPress outline are going. except they all will go directly into the thoughtStreams category. for my WordPress outline entries, i would choose which, if any, of the categories it would get assigned to.
the benefit is this. i wouldn't need an opml community server. all i need is WordPress. the WordPress tool already can post from the opml editor so i'm sure the community daily outline i'm typing in right now could easily be pointed to my WordPress site.
now that sounds like a good solution i'd love to see materialize.
aha! i've discovered some kind of feedburner/opml editor annoyance. ![]()
if you add a link to an enclosure such as an mp3 to your outline by right clicking and choosing Add Link, then you'd better make sure your entry is not indented beneath another entry or else your enclosure will not be recognized as such. meaning that your peeps will not get your podcast. :-(
this is a real nuisance because you can't add a link to a super entry top level item. so we feedburner users are stuck with this limitation for now i fear.
thanks to cosmicdread for alerting me to the fact that my podcasts weren't being downloaded.
in wonder if, in the future, there will be suicide counselors available via skype and ichat? and maybe even instant outline or maybe a skinnyfarm 2 way rss feed? ![]()
here is my user page on macstreams. it tells useful information like recent track history. there is even an rss feed of all the macstreamers. ![]()
would be nice if the megaseg playlist info was available as an RSS feed and an OPML file. ![]()
hi jason. i've been using megaseg more than ever on my thoughtStream.i wonder if you would consider this... producing our playlists and log files (now playing, just played, coming up, etc.) in RSS and or OPML format? I could have a lot of fun with megasegs output if so. much moreso than i can with the current HTML offering.
thanks for considering it. i love megaseg.
do you want an album for free? ![]()
here's a neat thing that magnatune is doing which reminds me of what icon buffet is doing. when i purchase an album from magnatune, they encourage me to give the album away for free. that's right. i can pass the download instructions on to 3 friends.
so, here's the deal. right now i'm thoughtCasting an album i got off magnatune tonight by AntiGuru Fall Submissions album. i'm going to loop it all night long while i sleep so you get a good chance to tune in on your schedule. i really like the band and i'm sure they will show up in a future podcast of mine. tune in right now and give a listen. if you like antiguru, contact me with your email address and i'll pass on the download instructions.

it takes too long to create a link in a post. i want it to happen with one fell stroke. imagine this. have you used dreamweaver? you know when you want to create a link you can click on the little circular arrow icon and just drag and point to the page you want to link to? wouldn't it be neat if the wedge in our outlines had that capability? then, instead of visiting a web page, copying the link, returning to opml editor, right clicking on the line, choosing Add Link and then pasting it in, we could just start dragging from the wedge icon, switch to the browser or file system or whatever and point to something. let go and that is your enclosure. in one fell swoop. ![]()
it's funny how a number of us seem to be communicating via our rss feeds and checking the changes page. 0xEMAILBAD ![]()
i don't see the enclosure link when i read the preceding posts in bloglines. i wonder if this enclosure will be seen? it's a top level link i'm adding here. my spidey sense tells me that feedburner might not register something as an enclosure if it is added to your outline in a sub entry. let's see. do you see the enclosure link for any of these posts?

let's try another thoughtBlip, shall we? ready, set... go. ![]()
donovan just posted this entry to his opml editor outline. let's see how long it takes him to record a thoughtBlip, assign it some useful ID3 tag information, upload it to the server and then attach it to this entry and save again. it's now 11:49pm.... here i go. ![]()
done! it's 11:55pm. there should be a thoughtBlip enclosure attached to this post.
thoughtCast experiment under way ![]()
Update: A few minutes after entering this post, decided to make a thoughtBlip out of it. a thoughtBlip is an audio recording about an entry, attached to the entry. my goal is to make this act as effortless as possible. it took me many steps to make it happen. too many. ![]()
i'm going to be spending a lot of time digging into megaseg again. now that i finally have lots of compelling and legal content to play, my thoughtCast is going to get some love.
there's lots one can do. i intend to setup a number of playlists and schedule them to be played at various times of the day and night. as well, i'm going to setup the hot keys with some choice short bits like those i find on sampleswap.
since this is my thoughtCast, i'm not just going to be playing recorded stuff. part of the whole thoughtStreaming idea is to become the media as effortlessly as possible. that includes streaming, or casting, your thoughts which i have been doing lately in between tracks and even over the tracks i play.
perhaps my podcasts will become more organic in the future. rather than reading over the day's entries and expounding on them in my podcast, perhaps if my thoughtCasting can become totally natural and an extension of myself in the same way as the opml editor has become for my weblogging (thoughtStreaming) then i might decide to hit the record button at any moment, and from that moment on i'm instantly creating a new podcast until i hit the stop button.
and if you happened to have been listening to my thoughtCast at the time that i decided to hit record, then you might visit my campfire chatroom and say hi. i'll say hi and then someone else who is listening to an earlier podcast will call my dial in number (320) 386-1158 and request a song and then i'll get an email while recording my podcast and chatting with you and i'll ask if you've ever heard this song that someone requested and then i'll play it for everyone in my podcast and for my campfire visitor in real time.
thoughtCasting to me is the third part of the puzzle for me. 1. rapid fire weblogging 2. podcasting and now broadcasting too.
let's bring back the most read sites yesterday page ![]()

dBug 5 learned a new hoop trick tonight. it involves much rotation and a bit of jumping out of the hoop and then back in. i would be lying if i told you my back isn't hurtin' a bit. ![]()

Here's the next update of the OPML Editor icons. I added some pizzaz to it reflecting the drive that the community has been getting lately. Hope you like the stuff! Cheers, Frank
generate a URL for a del.icio.us opml reading list. thanks for the link, lisa. ![]()
an excellent opml editor post by lisa. ![]()
dave says that if he cleaned up the code, he could release something that would allow one to edit a day's worth of wordpress posts in the outliner. ![]()
dave is playing around with the opml editor. welcome, dave! ;-) ![]()
ate at beth's cafe this morning and then went thrifting. i got a most excellent chinese jacket and a bitchin' cap. seattle area is the best for finding good deals on cool old duds.
budding opmlers might want to bookmark Scripteur.com which handily displays applescript and usertalk code. ![]()
i thought this latest idea added to les' instant outline looked familiar. planet opml. ![]()
les, can you pass me some shanghai tech and a plate of taters? thanks! ![]()
browser based prefs for the opml editor. ![]()
sorry in advance for the skipping on thoughtStream 15. i tried recording my thoughtCast from nicecast but there seems to have appeared a hiccup every so often. it's not too bad but definitely makes me want to do some more tests so that I can record my broadcasts without issues like this. still diggin'. ![]()
