i wonder if it would be possible to install some kind of bluetooth device in my hoop which can control things on my computer? might be a fun game to play or perhaps there are other things one can do by controlling the computer via a hula hoop instead of a mouse? Permanent link to this item in the archive.

thoughtFeed = rss feed

thoughtCast = podcast

thoughtCast broadcast = live streaming of thoughtCasts and other stuff

thoughtBlip = audio recordings whose topic solely covers the thoughtStream post it is attached to

thoughtBubble = Movie based capture of screen usually with audio notes

tweac = thoughtStream with enclosure audio capsule (original name for my thoughtCasts)

alright. that worked great. i use screen snapz pro (deluxe movie making edition) every day. but only for images. starting with the first thoughtBubble i just made, i aim to incorporate movies a lot more. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

to get my thoughtBubble made and online i had to take these steps.  Permanent link to this item in the archive.

1. shift-apple-3 to bring up the screen snapz prefs screen

2. choose movie

3. draw a box around the area i want to capture

4. hit return to start recording

5. do my thang

6. hit shift-apple-3 to stop recording

7. make some movie format decisions and hit save

8. open screensnapz folder in pathfinder

9. rename file (if so desired)

10. drag to send button in imagewell

11. switch to opml editor

12. type something, right click and choose add link, paste link

13. hit save

14. hit build rss

whew! i want to reduce this to 1 step. i want this process to be as effortless as thoughtStreaming is in my opml editor. i will achieve my desires. your thoughts on how to do this are most welcome.

question about map a domain...  Permanent link to this item in the archive.

i have taken dave up on his offer to map a domain to my Directory of Donovan. You'll find the HTML version here at

http://directory.donovanwatts.com/

my question is this. if at some future point you tell us OPMLites that we need to move to another server, what happens to this map a domain thing? is that a function of the opml community server and can i assume that whomever becomes my new host will offer me that domain feature? or is this not something i can rely on? just trying to plan my future accordingly. thanks.

OPMLers, choose Map a Domain from the community menu and you too can have your own top level directory.

i just realized why it is that many of us communicate via our RSS feeds and changes so much. unlike radio userland, we don't get a nifty little email icon that allows our visitors to send us an email. interesting. perhaps the addition of an email account would be a good service to offer Become the Media OPML Community MembersPermanent link to this item in the archive.

thanks for adding my opml editor search engine swicki to your instant outline under OPML Resources, peter. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

this is what i like about swicki's. as the owner of this swicki, i get to see what my visitors are searching for.

and then i get to decide if i want to promote those changes to the buzzcloud, or default words that people see. community driven search engine. for instance, i see someone searched for lucaHacks. i'm going to promote that one for sure so that it can become more well known. now this is more like it...

here's another example of what i can do with a swicki. i can promote pages. take a look at this picture. you'll notice that SpaziOPML is the second entry and LookSmart's Furl entry is at the top of the list. well, as the owner of this swicki, i have the power to easily promote the SpaziOPML entry to the top. try it out. search my swicki for lucaHacks and you'll see that SpaziOPML is now at the top of the list. pretty neat? i think so.

my opml editor swicki can always be found at the bottom of my home page.

i especially ilke the send to folder feature. would be good to send things to our opml blogs folder and have the url automatically copied to our clipboard.

  • Universal Binary - Intel and PPC both supported
  • -Requires 10.3.9 or better*
  • -Fixed color corrected monitor creating huge .jpg files
  • -Send short cut key - Command-S
  • -Random Filename generator
  • -Send to Folder option added
  • -Dutch Translation courtesy Rob v.d. Berg
  • -Other minor fixes

remember, imagewell not only uploads images to your ftp server. imagewell uploads whatever file you throw at it. this is great because now, instead of using imagewell to fire off my images, i'm going to use it as well to fire off my thoughtBlips. the advantage of using imagewell over transmit droplets, which i've been using up till now, is that you also get the HTML code ready to paste in your outline for the uploaded file. ps - imagewell seems a bit flakey. worked on my first attempt but then trying to upload something a second time it is just hanging there. i can cancel but not sure why it's not being uploaded. second update... imagewell works just fine sending files as long as there are no spaces in the filename. probably a good idea to do that anyway. so now i'm one step closer to one button pressing publishing. Click here to access the object that's linked to this item. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

i really need a separate server. dishing up a thoughtCast using megaseg and nicecast has pegged my CPU usage and my laptop has been pretty sluggish. so, i've turned off my thoughtCast 24/7 idea for now until i get an appropriate setup. for now then, i'll just work on getting my audio setup to be as rapid fire as my thoughtStreaming. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

opml editor. i wish it opened my blog folder like textmate handles projects Permanent link to this item in the archive.

i absolutley love the way textmate opens a folder of documents as a project. if we could do something like this with the editor and our blog folder, it would be delectable.

on the air. off the air Permanent link to this item in the archive.

i need a way to let people know when i'm on the air with my thoughtCast. would be nice to flip a switch and have my opml site template say "On the Air" as well as have a new entry in my outline created here that says... "Donovan has just gone on the air. Tune in to his thoughtCast" or something like that.

likewise, the opposite would automatically happen when i flipped the switch the other direction. would be neat if i actually controlled this from a USB on/off switch or the griffin powermate programmable knob.

so many things to wire up. so little time.

i keep thinking about application mashups. can someone tell me if it is possible to embed the opml editor into another application? it's nice as a standalone app but i keep wanting to embed the outliner into my other apps so each application can have it's own mini thoughtStream editor. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

is it possible to make today's outline in opml editor a floating window on mac? Permanent link to this item in the archive.

it would be neat if the opml editor were a plugin that i could choose to add to any application that resides on my computer. i'd bake into megaseg, imagewell, nicecast, and probably more. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

how about controlling opml editor from quicksilver using the append feature? merlin mann of 43folders is always talking about how great it is to use quicksilver to do rapid fire additions to his text files. how about to our opml files and today's outline? ok, i'm totally going to look into this. i don't even want to have to switch to the opml editor to enter my thoughts. i'll just hit a quicksilver hotkey, enter my post and hit return. closer! Permanent link to this item in the archive.

thoughtLog, Changelog, thoughtStream, weblog, whatever you want it to be. this is for rapid fire logging of whatever you want. i want to capture my thoughts. you may want to capture your code change notes. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

enclosure. that means much more than mp3s. yet, when i think of attaching an enclosure, i think of an mp3 usually. no more. time to stop that. i can enclose lots of things. like a picture of my backpack for instance. i would have attached it to the previous post where i am actually selling my backpack but since i can't add attachments to my opml editor blog and expect them to show up in my feedburner feed as an enclosure since the post is a super entry post, i attached it here. btw, see the speaker icon? doesn't make sense as an enclosure icon. we need something more generic. Click here to access the object that's linked to this item. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

i'm selling one of my spire laptop backpacks Permanent link to this item in the archive.

it fits larger sized apple laptops. the ones that others so lovingly refer to as the toilet seat design. (i've still got mine. it's the special edition glow in the dark model) the backpack is in very good condition. perhaps i'll list it on edgeio.

i'm going to get some biz cards from vistaprint that say Donovan Watts. Hooper. And my phone number and email. i'll give them out wherever i go. forget the gym, hooping is the new exercise. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

very cool, marty about indenting rss feeds. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

i didn't know that this was a feature. now i can see it is if i look at it like you do, as a placeholder. i didn't realize that a 'read more' link was generated. totally cool.

and if you are reading this sentence, then you are either reading this on my blog or you have clicked on the read more link in your news reader. i like it.

i'm not fond of the way you use blockquote to represent what you say on your site marty. i'm used to blockquotes representing what other people are saying.

oh, i see... the third indentation gets blockquoted. hmph. i don't want that.

ack! oh my god. it's not creating a blockquote at all. it's creating a TABLE for the third indented stuff! not good in my opinion. please, please, please stop using tables for this kind of layout stuff. where do we post requests like this? on frontier kernel? to our blogs? to the support email lists? do it ourselves?

marty, i've got a thoughtStream, not a thoughStream. :-) Permanent link to this item in the archive.

you are correct, pete. regarding lisa's reading list video, one needn't type anything first... just choose add feed to outline and it'll put the name of the feed in for you. you can actually see lisa delete her first entry after pasting in the feed. probably should have redone the video in my opinion to eliminate that part. it could be confusing. and if you see nothing for a little icon next to your reading list, i believe dave posted a fix on support.opml.org which makes your icons work again. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

dave points me to a thoughtProvoking post by terry heaton about our perception of broadcasting Permanent link to this item in the archive.

"What's wrong is that the internet isn't a form of broadcasting, and putting it in the same line with "other" broadcast models is suicidal in a Media 2.0 world. If public broadcasters are to be successful downstream, they're going to have to see themselves as more than "just" broadcasters, and that takes a new way of thinking."

dave winer: "BTW, I should introduce Andre. He's been helping me out with builds of the OPML application. I've known Andre since 1995, when he was part of the Clay Basket community, a very early instance of the OPML Editor"

oh the clay basket. that was the first web building application i used when i got started on the internet in 1996. i've been following dave's lead and using frontier ever since. it was the smartest tool ten years ago and it remains so now.

i guess that's why dave and andre, and all of us now that it is open source, are still working on it, making it better than ever. the web is still easiest to work with from behind an outliner.

">my bloglines feeds? i can visit this page but when i choose export feeds, i get the opml file in what looks to me like a frame full of opml text. how do i save that as an opml file so i can import it in newsriver?
