though i don't speak martian (frontier programming usertalk c and all that) i love reading every last word on the frontier kernel list. i believe i was a programmer in my last life but my mission in this life is more tinkerer and evangelist or something like that. reading lists like that allows me to sort of get a grasp on where something is headed and how the group of people moving things forward get things done. it's all about getting things done, isn't it? i may not know how to code it myself, but if i can communicate to a coder and understand how to bridge the languages then we should be able to get some movement. ![]()
steve kirks brings up the idea of a mentor on the frontier kernel list. i like the idea of a mentor and think it's one of the fundamental elements missing from many people's lives. imagine if, for any project or software application you just downloaded such as opml editor for instance, that you were assigned a mentor who stepped you through assignments that led to you feeling very comfortable and able to head out on your own with confidence. all we have these days are email lists, forum, instant outlines, wiki's, FAQs, blog, screencasts, osmosis and all. those are great for research but none of them would match a mentor. great idea, steve. ![]()
