Thanks as well Matt and Steve and Canton and Dana and Aimee and my folks and brother and Mike and Lori and Erik and anyone else I've missed. I appreciate the thoughts so much. It really helps me get through this hard time, you know? To know that friends and family are there for you in times of trouble is all a guy like me can really ask for to be happy in this sometimes screwy world. ![]()
What do you do when your laptop has been stolen? Embrace the analog. I got my acoustic guitar out of storage, called my brother and had him tune it over the phone. I'm now thumbing through my beginner guitar book and re-learning some basic chords. ![]()

Today I found this post which suggests I call Apple and report my PowerBook stolen. Apple maintains a database of stolen laptops and if mine is ever taken in for repair, it'll show up. And then I'd get it back. Hopefully. ![]()
I wish I had protected my laptop using Absolute. They could track it down because my laptop would have called them up as soon as I reported it stolen. ![]()
Perhaps I should have disguised my PowerBook as a pizza? ![]()
LapCop will also contact you if your PowerBook is stolen. And Undercover is recommended for Tiger users. ![]()
I'll tell you what. If I stay in the damn computer biz, I just might get into the security and recory biz. More and more laptops will be stolen. You can bet your ass on that. Perhaps my lousy situation will propel me to help others not have to go through what I'm going through now. If only I had protected myself with some of the anti-theft/recovery software I listed above. If only I had made sure my password was enabled. If only I had recent backups. If only I had double checked that I securely locked the back door of the house. If only... ![]()
