many times, on my way to work at answerlab, i cross through the mission, past some interesting sites and even more interesting smells. one of the people i often pass is a woman who does tile work. so many times i passed her until one day, last week, i stopped and introduced myself. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

her name is susan and she is a rogue tiled-bench artist. under cover of night, she places her fantastic creations in some random spot in a park somewhere. it beats waiting through three years of tape just to get one bench in a park, like the one she's almost finished with right now. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

i can't wait to check it out. golden gate park. butterfly bench. i'll post a pic someday when i find it. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

a thoughtStream is prone to chaos. the format you've been experiencing can suddenly change. it's basically an impulse driven blogging format. the loss of rigidity as method. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

argh. i hate titles. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

hmmm, if each node in my OPML Editor outline sent a twitter, now that would make me use twitter. never have i heard a twittering bird who didn't twitter at the approximate rate at which i can enter new entries in opml editor. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

sup, opml'rs?!?

How's the community? I see Dave is tweaking OPML Editor for some Apple TV goodness. And there's a youtube, oops, I mean blip.tv opml group. coolio. what else is new? seriously? i'm jonesing for my opml editor peeps.

How's that for a section header? It's fun to think up non-sensical blog titles but I think I'll start the "all hands on deck" approach to further the non-conformity angle of a thoughtStream.

You follow my thinking? I'm referring to the fact this the title of this Post is "sdfjklfjkldfsjkldsf" Kind of ludicrous, don't ya think? "A title should be something dignified, not just a bunch of random letters," says you. I say, "oh, really? who says so?" and then the discussion spirals into a non-sensical debate over something that *we* are all creating.

You want to use proper titles? Go ahead. I prefer not to.

Big screen Permanent link to this item in the archive.

There's just something about a big screen. My 22" Dell monitor, paired with a screaming Mac Mini, has brought about a renaissance in computing for me. The laptop makes me want to get my job done and then close the lid.

The 22" monitor causes me to spend time setting up my environment, see the big picture, and get more done in a sane manner. Switching windows sucks. It sucks. If you don't think so then you are in denial my friend. That's OK. We all are until the day we get a 22" or larger monitor.

Try it.

Other things Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Just moved OPML Editor over to my Mac Mini. My main machine in other words.

Every time I wanted to twitter something, ooops, I mean post something via the OPML Editor (the real twitter. fuck you twitter!) I had to open up my iBook and then post it. Screw that. All or nothing. So, I renamed my hard drive to 'andromeda' (I like to start my hard drive names with the letter 'a' so that they appear at the top of any dialogue boxes) and then copied over OPML Editor.

Back in business.

OPML Editor doesn't take kindly to different hard drive names. It's the bane of the application's existence as far as I'm concerned. So my solution is the ever-un graceful renaming of the hard drive. Talk about bending to the will of a programmer! Come on Dave, please make it drop dead easy to move OPML Editor from one machine to another, especially when it comes to the name of the hard drive. Thanks for listening. I wouldn't complain if I didn't care.

Speaking of OPML Editor. It rocks. It's friggin' awesome. You are missing out if you aren't using it. It's an outliner, a weblog, a programming environment. A black box. It's free. It's funky but it's worth the quirkiness.

I thoughtStream (fuck you twitter!) with OPML Editor. Twitter sucks. Long live OPML Editor!

Real people blog with OPML Editor. Twitter sucks!

Become the Media with Donovan Watts Permanent link to this item in the archive.

OK, I think I finally figured out a plan for Become the Media. I'll be posting WordPress tips and tricks mainly. Now that I've installed more than twenty WordPress installs, some of which have been heavily customized, I feel like I've learned a thing or two.

For instance, are you aware of the Seth Godin WordPress plugin to help tap into the power of cookies in order to focus your message on newbie site visitors? How about the Sem Admin menu plugin to place a quick-access toolbar to your WordPress internal pages?

Now, I'm not saying that I am the end-all of WordPress experts but I do have a lot to share. With you and my clients, many of whom hapilly have WordPress installed now.

When my clients ask questions about WordPress, I'm going to first of all convert their question in a part of the FAQ. And then I 'm going to write up the answer on the site. And then I'm going to point my client to the site for the answer. After time, Become the Media should become a valuable resource for not only my WordPress enabled clients, but others on the net who are using this most powerful and easy system of website ownership.

I'll say it again. If you are using Dreamweaver or Frontpage or similar system to maintain your site, stop. Right now. Just stop. Switch to WordPress and then get to wondering how you ever possibly could have been updating your site with Dreamweaver. It's 2007. Your site can be automated.
