It's being reported the UAE government-owned company has proposed a political face saving for Bush. The government-owned company offered a 45 day review of the six port take-over deal. What irks me is that if the USA has a president who believes his job is to protect the American people he would have demanded a full and thorough review by Congress before going forward. Instead Bush is on the wrong side of this issue. As usual with this man, his words and his actions are at odds. The Portgate situation is much worse than reported. The MSM has only reported about the American container ports when in fact DP World will control 21 American maritime ports. The UAE government-owned DP World is purchasing P&O. P&O is the parent company of P&O Ports North America, which leases terminals for the import and export and loading and unloading and security of cargo in 21 ports, 11 on the East Coast, ranging from Portland, Maine to Miami, Florida, and 10 on the Gulf Coast, from Gulfport, Miss., to Corpus Christi, Texas. Baltimore Baton Rouge Beaumont Boston Camden Corpus Christi Davisville Freeport Galveston Gulfport Houston Lake Charles Miami New Jersey New Orleans New York Newport News Norfolk Orange Philadelphia Port Arthur Portland Portsmouth Wilmington Dubai, 24 January 2006: - Global ports operator DP World today welcomed news that one of its senior executives, Dave Sanborn, has been nominated by US President George W. Bush to serve as Maritime Administrator a key transportation appointment reporting directly to Norman Mineta the Secretary of Transportation and Cabinet Member. Why would any AMERICAN president support the turn-over of 21 maritime ports to an Arab government-owned company? I support American companies owning and running America's ports. |
