When I was reading about virtual worlds within the virtual world of the internet yesterday, I remembered that long ago (I would guess it was '98 or '99) when we were looking for fundraiser ideas at the Republic of Pemberley, I suggested selling virtual blocks of land on the island that we imagined as Pemberley's location. I think it was one of those half-joking ideas that you toss out only to someone you know will appreciate brainstorming and I certainly had no notion of exploding the idea beyond the one fundraiser and one island. Anyway, it was never tried. But its funny to think about now that the concept is big business. Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Speaking of Pemberley, why do you think someone would strip specific correct people's names out of it's Wikipedia entry? It's a good thing that the edit history is recorded and the discussion page is unalterable. I made a promise to myself some time ago not to dabble with the entry. I'm a fan of Wikipedia, and I still think extra unaggregated perspective pages could be a good idea. Permanent link to this item in the archive.
