I think we are seeing the net reaching an age where much of the philosopy of openess and belief in humanity that typified its early years is being turned over, and that it's likely that the last ten years or so of the net will be looked on as a kind of wierd outbreak of misguided utopianism where people did things on the net for pure pleasure, before business and more typical cut throat relationships established ways to exploit it.

I guess its a familiar enough pattern, maybe even the way of the world. Whats that saying ... everything changes but everything stays the same? Something like that.
