I hear that Wordpress will support OPML blogging, since the main iPodderX blog is running Wordpress I am going to be really excited to try that out!

I'm still here.
* A month or so ago I urged libsyn.com to post a opml version of their directory, the did it :) and said it was easy
* We released the first Windows public beta and will release the second one shortly
* I'm working on the windows beta and well as bug fixes in general
* Did you know iPodderX uses 4.1.x of the BitTorrent Protocol? It was a lot of work to do, I thought someone should know ;)

During Dave's talk in Toronto (Thanks Dave!) he talked about people building OPML search engines. Then it dawned on me the other day that iPodderX has an OPML search engine! We spider through the ipodder.org OPML directory and cache it in our database so it can be searched by a user to find what they want. We even go a step further and cache what the OPML directory is pointing to. Pretty cool huh?
Tom Morris responds to Adam Curry's cry for ideas to solve the podcast bandwidth issues, and one idea that struck me as interesting was this one:
How about this? Have a whole bunch of RSS feeds. Every time someone looks for your RSS feed, they get a different feed - so, for instance adamcurry01.xml, adamcurry02.xml, adamcurry03.xml etc. There would be a smalll time difference between each file. So, for instance, if 01.xml publishes at 1pm, then 02.xml publishes at 1.30pm. The time variation could be varied by the bandwidth used. That way, the difference between n.xml and n+1.xml is dependent on how much bandwidth is used. Perhaps each n.xml would be mapped to a different server if you wanted to reduce the difference between n.xml and n+1.xml. This way, each podcatcher picks up the file over a longer period.
I think at one point Doug Kaye was looking into something similar, not sure why it didn't happen.. Maybe one issue with the whole idea is that the directories are only going to have adamcurry01.xml and not support the dynamic linking to the other time-shifted RSS feeds. Maybe that is the reason Doug didn't follow through. Anyways its an interesting thought that might need to be looked at a bit more closely.
I think I need to start to use the categories feature... Things are starting to get a tad messy around here.
I'm still trying to get changes.opml.org to show up on my right sidebar and its not dynamically refreshing :( Looks like Dave is going to do the same thing on his blog, maybe he'll let us know how he did it :(

OPML And The Podcasting Directory ![]()
The OPML Directory is in disrepair... with the OPML editor really shapping up I hope we can get the editors on board and starting work on the directory this way.
Why is the OPML Podcast Directory important?
1. It enables developers like us to create useful tools(iPodderX) based on that data
2. No one company can filter the data that is in the directory, its really hard for an open community directory to not list a podcast because they don't like it.
3. Some people are not programmers nor do they want to do their own podcast, but they want to be involved in the community (I don't blame them! its great fun!) being a node editor for the podcast directory enables them to do just that, be involved!
I'm sure there are more, and I'll add to this list as they come to me. Dave, Adam, you with me on this?

Instant Outlining is not like RSS ![]()
"In RSS you can subscribe to 100 feeds, no problem. Some people subscribe to 1000 feeds. It's a bit of work to keep up with them, but a human being can do it. But with I/O, the most you can do is four or five. It's a workgroup application, not a global one." -- Dave Winer
I got the iPodderX Developer's Weblog template done in OPML now, pretty cool huh?
OK Now that is cool! I was able to link to http://hosting.opml.org/changes.opml in my blogroll so now as people update their OPML blogs it will show up on this one.
Update: It's not working the way I expected it to... I have to edit the blogroll, for the "Receently Updated OPML Blogs" to update on the website
Cool if you type OPML funin double quotes you get this: OPML -- I found this on Kosso's OPML Blog
I'm still playing with the Editor and working on getting the template close to what we have at ipodderx.com/blog! we want to make this site are experimental/R&D end, and see what we can do next

Last nights OPML Roadshow turned out great. Actually the turn out for the event was greater than expected considering the short notice. The folks at Command-N taped the demo, and I had a short interview with them to talk about iTunes and podcasting and how it relates to iPodderX ![]()
