I have been on a "dogfood eating" spree. I decided to use the Google Reader to read my favorite feeds several weeks ago. I've learned a thing or two about RSS feeds since then. Not in a technical sense but rather in a process sense. Some content I want to read in it's entirety, like Scripting News for instance. I found that as my list of feeds grew, I started missing items from Scripting News.

Now I can live with missing two thirds of the content on Gizmodo or Engadget but I've got a long term relationship with Scripting News. I've counted on Dave to clue me in when there was something coming over the event horizon that I was likely to be interested in. As Dave Slusher reminds us with the catty clip from Kill Bill Vol 2, "Now you should listen to this cause this concerns you." That's how I feel about Scripting News. It's not my only source of news, just a major one.

Consequently, I've put Scripting news back into my "Goodmorning" bookmark folder that sits in the "Bookmarks Toolbar Folder" in Firefox. Every morning I select "Open in tabs" and read all my favorite sites. One of the other tabs in this group is Reader. by the time I get to Reader, I usually have to get busy. I usually come back to it if I have time before I go home or at lunch. But I subscribe to enough feeds at this point that I almost never drain the pipe.

So I guess that's my $.02 on my personal experience with RSS feeds. They are a great idea but you have to think about how you want to use them. Just a Friday night ramble since I haven't posted much here lately.
