Welcome to my OPML(tm) blog Permanent link to this item in the archive.

It's fantastic to see this moving forward, I've loved the potential in OPML for many years. I'm not in love with the syntax of the format itself, but that is beside the point.

Obvious Question Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Has anyone answered Dave's call for help with the Mac OS X version of OPML(tm)?

I ask because I could definitely see myself using this as a tool for collecting daily thoughts on my current weblog (somehow integrating this with the system I use now), but I'm on Mac OS X or Linux all day, almost never using Windows.

In my outline, the line "Real artists ship." is a link to the google search results page for that string. It doesn't appear as a link in the weblog. That's what my intuition told me to expect when I saved the outline.

Dare I ask, is there a way to make it so?

Excellent, Dave says he's made a server-side enhancement to show an icon next to items with links!!

Let's see if it works. If it does, there will be a link somewhere on this line. Click here to access the object that's linked to this item.

Update: Dave responded, the link type lines only get hyperlinked if they're top level, and from experimentation, it seems only if there are no sub-items on the link.

Since these paragraphs are sub-items of the Intuition headline, link-type headings don't get hyperlinks.

I moved the "Real artists ship." line to the top level of the outline and moved the "Congratulations" line directly below it. Now I see a little speaker icon next to the text. Maybe that makes sense for podcasts, but not otherwise. Is there no unique type for podcast links vs. regular hyperlinks, or is the link type really intended to be used for "attachments" to outline nodes?

Other observations and questions Permanent link to this item in the archive.

This is really easy.

The output isn't XHTML compliant, for example, img tags aren't self-ending, like this <img ... />.

Can I use custom outline renderers or is it all server-side rendered?

Is there are hook/callback for having additional scripts run when the save button is pressed? I think it would make for a good way to integrate this with other systems.
