Thoughts regarding my blogroll
Now that BlogHer is over, I've removed the full BlogHerRoll, and reverted to my usual practise, which is that blogs appear in my blogroll either a) because I regularly read them, or b) because I *would* regularly read them, if I had the time, but I do (at least) recommend them to others. Inclusion in my blogroll is not a right (nor do I see my inclusion in anyone else's as a right). Write well, make me aware of your blog, and you'll go in. No gender bias. M'kay? ;-)
Having added in a new batch or blogs, I'm about to decide whether any that are in there are well past their "sell by" date. Bottom line - I'd like my blogroll to represent my personal recommendations, nothing more. I don't claim that every good or worthy blog in the world is on it - but I'll try to make sure that everything that *is* on it is worth a look.
This is the same blogroll that is rendered, using activeRenderer, on my main blog. I've debated whether to categorise or rate the individual entries, but have decided against both practises - I read them (or *would* read them) for *my* reasons, which may be vastly at odds with *yours*.
For the avoidance of any doubt - the primary factor I use in deciding whether to read a blog is the quality of the writing - next the quality of the content - and dead last is the issue of whether I actually agree with the author. I like to read stuff that I actively disagree with - but it needs to be well-written, well-thought out, and provide some worthwhile "take away" to justify my time spent reading it.
