NEW CHANGES THING Permanent link to this item in the archive.

See the new Flash thing on the side bar? It's stuff like this that drops out of developing the podbat which makes it so darn distracting! But the good kind

I've been planning on doing one of these for audio.weblogs.com for a while, with a built-in mp3 player. I often enjoy finding new podcasts by flying through the changes feed via the Bluggcaster. It's like tuning a dial on a radio.

DOWNLOAD ONE FOR YOUR 'O'BLOG

Click here to download a zip file containing the swf file for your opml.org blog (it wont work on other domains - but you can include your opml.org hosted swf file on another domain)

Unzip the file and open the readme.opml in your editor

Podbat Alpha Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Going to do a big push on the podbat today. Well, like every day recently! ;) Doctoe and I will also be doing a 'Bluggcast' tonight, discussing various thoughts and questions which have arisen while creating the alpha, as well as talking about podcasting tools as a whole.

I have held off doing the web side of things yet, as I'm interested to see how this OPML driven system could work. But, it's all a question of how quickly things can be built or integrated. Sometimes [even!] I need straight answers rather than a spade to go diggin'

It's all coming together. I've been building each part of it seperately for a while now, starting with some of my early flash RSS reader experiments, through to mobile image uploading systems and podcast players.

The tools I use to create the executable continue to evolve and enable new ideas and features, so there's this constant flux of ideas around the podbat in my head. OPML helps to tie all this down, to organise and prioritise. Idea processing.

The next podbat phase will use more OPML to organise the RSS feeds people will be able to create with it, using the OPML/RSS interfaces I have been developing.

I hear a PHP version of the server could be in the pipeline. It will be interesting to see what other versions appear. Ruby on Rails? Coldfusion? I've been playing with sax and xpath recently, via PHP, so I may have a go at some kind of of rendering engine, if I have the time. I would need to do a certain amount of this anyway, for the podbat server, which will be tracking content created by the downloaded apps.

I'm also looking at creating an API for members to manipulate their stuff along with integrating with other systems like blogger, flickr, ourmedia, audio.weblogs.com, indiepodder, archive.org

Now though.. we're off to have our Sunday Eggs Benedict. Mmmmm... our favourite!
