HACKERS & PAINTERS II 

Recently I came across a set of essays by a guy called Paul Graham and one in particular called 'Hackers & Painters' - it a great little read about relationships between programmers and artists.

Then yesterday, having synced up my podcast subscription to the great 'IT Conversations' (a set of podcasts with audio from tech conferences), I find the audio from a conference he gave at OSCON05 (Open Source Conference).

It's a fascinating view about the workplace and conditions in the digital age from the perspective of the open source developer, though it addresses loads of things which I think loads of people, especially in large organisations, should be aware of. I thoroughly recommend giving it a listen, while you work or commute. [they have a flash player there on the page, if you don't want to download it.]

I've since found out alot more about this Paul Graham chap. Seems he's been fighting spam for a while, having come up with the basis of most Baysian spam filters. Cool!

COOL TO SEE CNET OPML IS FIXED 

Just seen that CNet's Top 100 OPML list is fixed up with nice type=rss attributes. Cool.

I am just adding Atom support to my OPML browser/Feed aggregator. I find lots of feeds which suggest they are a feed by using the 'rss' attribute, but many are Atom 0.3 format. Oh well. It's easy to add anyway.

Attributes RULE! With easy tools to manage attributes in OPML, there are so many cool applications which could be built and displayed. I;m going to start making up my own for extra features in my OPML browser, which when I add the mp3 playlist player, will become my default aggregator.

ANY NEWS ON THE COMMUNITY SERVER? 

I'd really like to hear more about a possible timeline for an OPML community server release. My podbat.com blog running on Radio chokes too much, and I want to change it when the registration expires - if not before. So I want to use OPML to run my blogs, sites and domains.

The 'nature' of the sites I'm building would really suit having OPML as the veins of the system.

I have plenty of boxes here at home which it could run on to try it out.

I think we'll see a Hollywood blockbuster called 'SOX' soon... ;)

Which could include Boston's feat from last year.

I always wished we played proper Baseball at school in the UK. Rounders just wasn't quite the same. heh. And you didn't get snazzy outfits. Or a cool glove. There's nothing like huzzing a ball at ridiculous speeds between two people with baseball mitts (and can throw!)
