I posted a comment on the Scobleizer, after a related post there on why I think this a good idea. I'll post it here too.
having a cool open api and the ability to create cool gadgets that people could get paid for creating and sharing is totally the way to start bubbling up the best ideas, instead of trickling down.
that’s where the love affair will start.
the toys and widgets will hold out their hands for a folksonomic fandango, which will be sexy and fun.
the creators will get the numbers. and possibly a date.
but the influencers will know who was responsible for the introduction. and those people will end up being the best man, or maid of honour at the wedding.
Rather than it being all about attention, I would say it has lots to do with ATTENTROPY limitation (yes I made that word up - but it works!).
I think it’s relatively easy to get attention by offering something that people want and doing it in a nice and easy, stable way. But the secret is keeping that attention. Nurturing it. Growing it. Being nice to it. Respecting it.
Indeed, we need to trust those who are doing that to us. They need to respect that we are the people driving their vision (and let’s not forget - business). Eventually you become friends and who knows.. lovers? ;)
If Microsoft can pull that off, then they’ll generate a whole lotta love for a whole lotta time of a whole lotta people.
And I for one, wish them the best of luck instigating the love affair!

WOW DADDY!
Coo. I was just listening to the excellent GeekNewsCentral podcast and heard Todd talking about the GoDaddy hosting and server plans they offer. He was remarking to them about their prices and they said that well, they want to be the most popular. With those kind of prices, they sure on the way!
For example, the entry-level shared hosting plan, with 20GB of space is only $3.95 per month, which includes 1,000GB of bandwith (per month, I assume) !!!
That's pretty bloomin incredible if you ask me! And they don't tie you into an annual contract, though you can save money if you sign up for 12 months.
I would say that if you can hike that kind of data transfer from a site you've built, every month, then you're well on your way to getting noticed and getting some funding to cover extra bandwidth or infrastructure, depending on how you;re using their space - possibly to host mp3 and video casts eh? eh? eh? ;).
I have to totally agree with something I heard in a recent podcast (was it Dave's? I'll check), that if your site maxes out running a service you've built, you're clearly onto something (given your system isn't riddled with dodgy code, chewing up the bandwidth. heh).
Maybe it's time I integrated the Bluggcaster, the Podbat, the PodbatMini, the KozOpml Browser and lots of other cool RSS+Flash stuff you've never seen into a hosted service for podcasts, vodlogs, blogs, data, whatever? Offer cheap monthly accounts etc. Feeds. Y'know-point-oh ;)
People who know me well, will know that's always been the plan :)
The thing is... can I get it all done in my spare time? Possibly. Probably. I don't really have a choice do I?
OPML SEARCH FEED CREATION
Rather like the gada.be opml results set, this little form, found by Amyloo generates an OPML file for you, where each RSS feed url is the query string to search multiple sources.
A nice and simple idea, which I've been planning to put on tagmad.com for a while:)
I also noticed that Amy asks about the time. I was simply asking about my Flash clocks on my sidebar, which have been hacked to 'do' timezones. I was just wandering if the end of daylight savings had messed things up.
Amy also notices her blog timezone is wrong to her location. I believe that it is possible to fix by opening your editor and going to Window > dotOpmlData.root
Then open up to the branch: dotOpm lData/blog/prefs/timeZoneString
Edit this to your locale. Hit Ctrl+S and close.
