NOT THAT WE NEED REMINDING... Permanent link to this item in the archive.

...but Dave totally 'gets it' when referring to the recenty exposed Google Talk API

"I want them to hide all the complexity behind a super-simple interface so I can build applications that run on their network. I want to do Instant Outlining, and use their infrastructure to transport the packets. Wouldn't that be cool?"

 Yes! It absolutely would! ;)

IS THIS AN OPML SPLOG? Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Or is it supposed to be useful?

I noticed the 'NewsGator Technical Support's OPML Blog' appear on changes just now. It's just a list of Forums, which I imagine the author meant to add as links, and did so using the 'Add Link' option in the contextual menu.

This confuses alot of people at first - to do an HTML link using the OPML Editor I get the URL into my clipboard by selecting the url, then hitting 'Copy' (Ctrl+C or Cmd+C). Then I go to the HTML menu at the top and pull down to 'Add Link'. This then puts the highlighted link in, as you would expect (though, this link isn't 'hot' in the Editor - as you might expect - as I did at first)

Now, if this does indeed turn out to be an official attempt to 'plug' the content of the forums into the/our OPML Blog world, then it could prove to be very interesting indeed - effectively/potentially turning each forum into a single OPML file, which the Editor/server could render out any way you like (eventually, when we get the servers working ;) - nudge). If this was 'your' forum (Nick? ;) ), then I don't see why you couldn't run scripts to dump out forum posts into OPML files within your www folder, letting the server handle the rest and rendering it out as HTML with the correct linkage. Or how about 'just' OPML and RSS feeds? et voila? Surely?
