OPML OUTPUT Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Yay! Now my new test OPML Manager can output OPML for you to save from the browser. Mmm! ;) Previous post.

UPDATE: Refresh your browser cache, if you have been testing - I have updated it and fixed a bug which Tim found. Current version is 0.102

Busy working on feed caching now ;) Also, it looks like I need to do a file import option too, as I can see people attempting to get bloglines export files and it it can't get your export list directly, as it effectively needs to be logged in as you. File import will come very soon, using Flash 8's power - though this current version is in Flash 7.

SKETCH N SEARCH Permanent link to this item in the archive.

I LOVE this! Draw a doodle and it will attempt to find pictures which look like it! I could use this with Blograffiti.com (not currently online)

Intereting that they have a link to Flickr up there. Not surprising as it;s all photos, but it kinda looks like an 'official' link. Know what I mean?

WILDCARD DNS Permanent link to this item in the archive.

I was incredibly disappointed to find out the other day that GoDaddy (where I have bought quite a few domains and has some easy DNS tools and good prices) does not support 'Wildcard DNS'. Grrrrr!!!

Wildcard DNS means that you can add an entry in your DNS records for a domain as a * (asterisk) - a wildcard, meaning you can point *any* subdomain to a single host IP and let your web server conguration handle what to do then. You can overide certain subdomain names before the DNS goes and looks to your IP for 'everything else' (This is how gada.be wordpress.com works, where they can offer very simple (and easy to remember) dynamic urls, which effectively point to a normal script url, but that's hidden from the user.

GoDaddy do make it very easy and fast to add subdomains and point them wherever you like. But it has to be individual names. I suppose I could write a system that managed the DNS records too, based on user registrations etc, but that wouyld get ridiculous very quickly and possibly screw the whole domain. Besides, I already know how to do it the easy way - podbat1.podbat.net, for example.

I wonder if Yahoo! Small Business domain names service supports this? But I seem to round and round with question forms on their site. Why no Yahoo Messenger ID that I can just ping? (Maybe there is one)

I have other domains bought through another company which lets me do the username.domain.com thang, for kosso.podbat.net, for example. But their response and support absolutely sucks. So, does anyone out there know of any reliable domain providers who offer simple and easy DNS management WITH Wildcard DNS? It looks like GoDaddy just lost a customer with ALOT of domains :( - At least I got reply from them about it and an easy way to ask.

MY NEW OPML MANAGER/EDITOR Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Woohoo! I'm on fire!! Come and check out a new OPML Manager tool demo I have been knocking up all day and night! This time it IS Flash (unlike the previous test and examples)

You can load an OPML file from a URL (import file coming soon) then edit, delete and drag the outline nodes around, much like you can in the OPML Editor. Hurrah!! I've been meaning to fix this up since last April!

There is also an option to output the resulting OPML, which for now only spits it into a text box for you to copy and paste.

Soon, I will incorporate the OPML inclusion functionality of the KOZ OPMLBrowser and the MP3 podcast playing powers of the Bluggcaster (more Flash OPML toys) with some new tricks I have up my sleeve too for some super tip top secret missions.

Feedback here please. Ta... Sleep for me now!

There are few bugs here and there. Also, I'll point out that this isn't a 'full-blown' OPML Editor by far. But it could make the life of OPML node managers much easier when it's finished, I think.

Maybe Bela would like to try plugging it into the workstation somewhere? Or Pieter in the OPML Manager? ;)
