Linden Lab just released the long-awaited update to the Second Life client application. (It's not a game ;) ) In this new version 1.10.0.32 there's a load of cool new stuff (though they appear to be still updating the release notes) - especially more support for XML-RPC and HTTPRequest, meaning it will be easier to get data in and out of SL to RL (that's 'Real World' for all you non-Slifers out there) For those of you familiar with the game, all I can say is: "feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" !!
Above is a map of the area I call 'The Podcast Peninsula' - So many podcasters have bought land around here and have created a place for their listeners to hang out and chat to the presenters. Adam Curry (aka Adam Neumann) is mostly to blame, due to setting up the 'Curry Castle' up on a hill. 'The Bluggcast Balcony' is around there too! This is just a test using the 'Slurl' map API. It's just like Google maps. - Click the RSS icons for more info on the area. More links to come. Along with a way for you to add your Second Life Landmarks plus a load more widgets. BTW: I have been successful in broadcasting live into Second LIfe via my laptop. VERY cool. I played a loads of tunes the other night and a load of people turned up to dance! Dr Fran was there too! ;) Next to the 'RSS Platform' is a smaller platform. I have hooked that up to automatically play you the most recent podcast from the audio.weblogs.com feed. Very cool! And this had given me a lot of new ideas, also releated to the new release. We also managed to broadcast a Skpye Call over it too! Amazing! For those of you seeking more SL goodness, check out uBrowser. Soon this will be in the install too so you could effectively blog, while itting back and watchin fht esun go down in Second Life while listening to your favourite podcasts! Yay!
Just managed to get the feedback forms up on podcast.com for you all. Should have had there from the outset really. It's weird we sometimes leave the easiest things for last. Also podcast feed submission feeds are on the way, along with the rss feeds for the development blogs. Along with all the AJAXy stuff going on in the site - which helps you to be able listen to a podcast onsite and carry on browsing, without interrupting the playback (or playlists to come!), there are also many permalinking features to the ever-dynamic content on there. eg: http://inside.podcast.com/develupdates/ takes you to the development blog http://podcast.com/show/1 will take you to the Bluggcast! http://bbc.podcast.com has been set up to drill you direct to the BBC branch on the directory. http://tech.podcast.com will take you to our technology branch.
