Second Life OPML Challenge: Build an OPML Tree
OK. So I had this idea, but not the time to do it:
| | 1: Create a 'seed' in Second Life which you set with a URL to an OPML file. You 'plant' this seed on land you own. |
| | 2: The seed reads the OPML and starts to grow branches - this is the OPML hierarchy. |
| | 3: On the branches are vines - these are RSS feeds containing blogs, news or podcasts. |
| | 4: Hanging from the vines is 'fruit' - these are feed enclosures - mp3s etc. |
| | 5: Make it all interactive and able to listen to or view podcasts and read news feeds and blogs. |
It should be possible via the new HTTPRequest and XML-RPC stuff - maybe limited OPML depth/nodes, but how about it? Can anyone out there try it? I'm sure we could scrape up a cool award/prize ;)
Second Life Down
Every now and again Linden Labs have to take down 'the grid' for maintenance. On their status update page it currently reads:
| | The Second Life login is currently restricted to Lindens only. We expect to return service to all residents shortly. |
Heh. I wonder what they're doing? Running around naked playing with everyone's toys? Having a big pillow fight? Who knows? Heh.
UPDATE: OOOoo, apparently it's down so they can be yet another client update which will be using the guts of Mozilla to support thier help system. This is step towards the inclusion of the 'uBrowser' project, which will allow people to put an interactive, fully-working webpage into Second Life as the surface of an object. 2D first - then 3D, from what I heard a recent Town Hall Meeting.
I can't wait!!!! I'll beb able to blog from SL, sat watching the people fly by.
