BLOGGERCON LIVE MP3 stream relay Permanent link to this item in the archive.

So, I got a laptop and opened up the Windows Media stream - then fired up WinAmp with the Shoutcast plugin - then set it to send up to the Shoutcast server.

So, If you can't handle Windows Media, here's an MP3 stream.

OFFLINE NOW - but before I did get it working on Second Life on The Bluggcast Balcony in Shinjung - I'll set it up again tomorrow.

Sat here in London and just listened to the intro by Dave (though I missed the song!) at BloggerCon in San Francisco vai the webcast. I might try the irc in a bit.

Doc Searls is official 'Technographer' - I might see what I can do with the OPML if I have the time.

Hey! Funky tunes from dahn in NewOrlinz!

BAD FEEDS Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Is it time to start listing the producers of BAD RSS FEEDS? Since working on podcast.com and parsing the world of RSS out there, it is plain to see that MANY people are doing so many things WRONG!

What really annoys me is that many of these feeds are being created by people who are PAID to do it RIGHT. How did they get the job? (One of the S's stands for 'simple' dontchaknow? )

So - should I start listing the offenders (possibly using a forum software presentation - with 'fixing threads' ) and set about HELPING these offenders? I think so - as it's clear that even publishers like the Times Online still can't get RSS feeds right (on their podcasts) - spot the error. See the US Soccer Podcast feed - no titles or descriptions!

It looks like lots of new podcasts have sprung up - on the 'me too' tip, yet the person who stood up and said 'I can do it!' and got the gig - can't - at least not CORRECTLY ;)

Todd Cochrane also chips in on a comment to a post by Nick Bradbury about this topic. Maybe blubrry will have some solutions?

I would also like to point out that one thing I noticed in the BBC's podcast trial RSS feeds - none of the RSS feed titles have BBC in it. Eg: BBC Radio 4's Today Programme RSS feed simply says 'Today'. No mention of the BBC. I think they should have it in the title - rather like they do with web page titles on the BBC News pages.

Alter Ego Shoot Out Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Last night Doctor Jo and I were photographed in the back garden by Robbie Cooper, for his 'AlterEgo' project. (site under const.)

We went to his exhibition last year, to see loads of photos he had taken of gamers around the world mounted next to their in-game avatar (character).

Jo did an article about Robbie and the show back in 2004.

VERY interesting to see the variance of RL to in game personas. Can't wait to see the result of ours ;)

The use of the term avatar for an online character was popularized by Neal Stephenson in his 1992 novel Snow Crash. An avatar is an incarnation of a deity in human form; the literal meaning of the Sanskrit word is "he passes or crosses down."
