Hey, Dave, about Safari... Permanent link to this item in the archive.

In answer to this...

To get the Home button on to your toolbar:

Choose "Customize Address Bar" from the View menu

Drag the home button to where you want it

Why's it not there by default? Because the majority of new computer users don't need it - they just open a new window. Note how tabbed browsing is off by default too, it's about making things as simple as possible.

To remove bookmarks from the bookmark bar that you don't want:

 Drag em off

To remove bookmarks from the bookmarks menu that you don't want:

Choose "Show All Bookmarks" from the Bookmarks menu

Higlight what you don't want and whack the backspace key

About Apple filling the default bookmarks with links to big companies:

What proportion of new computer users will appreciate a link to NY Times? What proportion would appreciate a link to Scripting News?

So you're saying that Microsoft's approach of force feeding users only Microsoft's own services is the better one? i.e., the Home page is MSN, the bookmarks are to Windows, Windows Marketplace, Windows Media and "WindowsMedia.com Radio Tuner."

On the Mac they link to Google, Yahoo, eBay, Amazon and a whole bunch of news sites.

Is there a version of IE for the Mac?

Not an up-to-date one, because Microsoft withdrew IE for Mac when Apple announced Safari.

Anyway, why on Earth do you want IE as your browser?! There are so many better browsers now.

You really, really dislike Apple? That's fine, they're far from perfect, but I'd rather be using a system from a company that competes by consistently producing higher quality products than a company that competes via illegal business practices.
