The Revolution doesn't seem to have started. The Senate confirmed Samuel Alito as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court without the fillibuster or the Repuglicans having to use the nuclear option. Alito was promptly sworn in to his new job on the court the same day. In spite of all the We'll just have to see how long it takes before those dire predictions come true. We worry about performance a lot. The really big directory users are pretty performance sensitive. When you're using the directory to run the business and you wire it into your networked applications (email routing, internet domain name servers, user or device authentication or authorization, etc.), performance metrics really count. Many of the changes to OpenLDAP in the past five years have been for improved performance. More are coming. Howard just stumbled across another opportunity for a performance improvement and that seems to happen all too frequently still. Performance translates to cost. High performance software translates into lower hardware cost per unit of work or level of capacity. It's all about TCO, isn't it? You'd never know it in the Identity Management community. The rowing machine got used yesterday. And we got a lot talked through after Howard pulled in here late in the morning. And the Shuttle is back on-line. We're not going to start from scratch and put all the emails and stuff at risk. At least not yet. I'd rather bring up a new machine in some number of years with a clean start and import what's needed. |
