Go boy, Throw Down That Gauntlet. Such a fitting domain name (BecomeTheMedia.org). IF Dave pulls the plug on his free OPML Community Server, where will we go indeed?

I have been vacillating between running the OPML Community Server on a Mac (pick up a refurbed Mac Mini, perhaps), praying for a Frontier Linux port, and praying for 0xDECAFBAD's php Community Server (which my never appear). But I've been thinking about this for weeks now.

I'd definitely jump (move this blog) to a commercial site (even Donovan's) if I was sure that it would a) be well taken care of and b) stay up with the changes I think are coming now that it's all Open Source.

There's a vote of confidence for the budding Media Mogul.

Technology "Framing" Permanent link to this item in the archive.

Technology is politicized and commercialized. It doesn't matter whether the "framing" is accurate, it sells soap and pours money into Corporate pockets.

Much of the Identity Management (IdM) or Identity and Access Management (IAM) discussion is about specific technologies, not about problems. One might say, it's a discussion about the solutions looking for a problem. But we all know there's a problem there.

Rather than solve the problems, we see technologists talking about solutions they don't have. They talk about solutions which solve the parts of the problem they understand, that they have solutions for. And they engage in rhetoric, trying to frame the problem in a way that's to their advantage.

So far, I can't say I've heard or read anyone who talks about the problem end to end. The result is a body of mostly noise and commercials. A lot like daytime TV.

The first one with working code generally wins and they're not here yet.

YAMI (Yet Another Musical Instrument) Permanent link to this item in the archive.

The start of another musical journey. Jordan and I walked over to Lark in the Morning in the Cannery and I bought an 18" Bodhran and some instructional stuff.

We'll see how this goes. All the demonstration pieces on the makers' Websites are so intimidating.
