Well, AmyLou, thanks for pointing me at the video and for your thoughts. After living with the Web pads of DT Research for a couple of years, I kind of believe (some of) the hype. You're not far wrong in your enthusiasm.

I worked on designs for devices that look a lot llike what's in that video. As small companis, DT Research and my client (Xybernaut) didn't have the resources to develop our designs. We certainly didn't have the money to do such glitzy and evocative video

A few predictions. It ain't gonna be cheap. That pretty and high-resolution handwriting isn't your average touch-pad. Forget using it in direct sunlight. If they try to fix that, forget battery life. Our High-Bright Atigos ate batteries for breakfast. But it'll won't be so flawed you can't like it.

A few more predictions. You'll fall in love with it. It won't be what you think it will. It will have a number of problems like the ones above. But when it's good, it will grab you and you'll be sitting there waiting for Version 2 and Version 3.

I had one of the Sony U series homve for a couple of days. I have a Samsung Nexio. I've never held the OQO but it's the same thing. It's an addictive form factor and an easily learned passion.

And if this is an elaborate hoax (which would be a WOW), try to get your hands on one of the others, at least for a while.

Jordan and I had to walk down to the bank (hidden in the trees to the left of the picture). With the recent earthquake activity, I took a radio, my fire department pager, and a comms quality headset. In spite of stuffing it all under a vest, I felt seriously geeky.

We had three local quakes, 2.6 to 3.4. Nothing that's going to shake the universe but you wonder if they're the prelims to something bigger. So far, nothing.

I grabbed the medium sized portable radio. The bigger one can use regular batteries and that's the one I need if the sh*t really hits the fan. This time, a belt-mounted rig was more comfortable.

Jordan doesn't care. He got dog biscuits and petted by Shannon at BB Gear and he was happy.

Nick Montfort (Twisty Little Passages) announced three new games for the "soon to be released" Inform 7 and the IF Instruction Manual. Looks like Graham Nelson, the Inform guy and Emily Short, his sidekick, have been busy.

Rowed 5546m in thirty minutes (with interruptions).

The three earthquakes in the area were news on the morning nets. Still sorry I didn't feel the one right here.
